Full install needed (again)

Thanks for this. Our Humax has been playing up for a while now, Start up wizard kept appearing, not finding any HD channels, but as we don't use it very often now, kept putting off trying to fix it.

Ran System Flash followed by fix-flash-packages, and it's as good as new.

Thanks again

Wow. I would never have thought it would fix finding HD channels. I (kind of!) wish one of mine would have this problem.

I don't believe there is any information to suggest one is more reliable than the other. There aren't many vertical RF connectors HDR Fox T2s around, it was a late variant. I have one and it's a pain, if you use custom firmware to reboot it in software it can't receive any channels after the reboot and needs a power cycle. I can cope but best not to go there if you don't need to.

Also it isn't just that the PSU is different, it's connector pinout is not the same so you can't mix and match an old main board with a new PSU or vice versa. Stick to the variant you already have, much better for spares and repairs.
Thank you for your reply - useful to know

Is this the startup reverting to the Installation Wizard you're talking about?
If so, I don't think it's necessary to do a full install, but there are a few, maybe up to ten, questions to answer.
It may be useful to know which version of the custom firmware you're currently on, if it's been recently updated etc.
on latest version of custom f/ware

Is the Auroa not a good device then ? as it's so many years later, would have expected it to have been a good step up, but not reseached it too much yet.
It's an Android based device, unrelated to the HDR Fox T2 firmware. Lots of new firmware and more of it gives plenty of opportunity for more bugs to be written. The act of writing code is the act of writing bugs, they're inevitable.

Failed again overnight …. Set up wizard on start up today.
Which means a full Channel search, edit of these, then reprogram of schedules.
Think I might have to go route suggested above and change board.

Been doing a fair amount of background reading and change to Aura in its current level is not a good idea.
Most people advise Manhattan T4-R would be the better buy.

That would depend on how you use a PVR. Do you just want to just timeshift, or do you want to archive recordings to view on other devices? If the latter then I don't think the Manhattan can do that.

I just time shift.
Only time I copied off recordings was when I put in a new HDD.

Is the limit due to app/access or file formats?

I had a look at Manhattan reviews, seems people really like the GUI & scheduling, the negative is only 2 simultaneous recordings …. Aura has 3 tuners.
Aura GUI it seems is disliked by all.

I might buy used Fox T2 for now and swap boards over, or swap my HDD into it, which is easiest.

When you say "boards" do you mean the motherboard? If so, there's no point swapping a motherboard from another unit into your existing one. You just "move into" the other unit. The PSU and front panel from your existing one become spare parts for the replacement, and you probably want to swap the HDD in.

You know you don't have to do all that manually, right?

"You know you don't have to do all that manually, right?"

No, was not aware .... is this some 'click' function. or app ? ...... it takes quite some time to get all channels, delete ones I don't want then reselect schedules.

Please can you explain more, or point me to the appropriate place.
I did get message - system crashed, and to look at crash log, and run fix-flash-packages (which I did)

Crash log just has entry "Humax crashed at Fri Jul 30 22:35:18 UTC 2021 - Uptime: 6758" which does not help me much

It's just a case of being aware what CF packages are available and what they do, as per WebIF >> Package Management (and/or appropriate forum look-ups, eg Index of Package Primary Topics).

Thus, with the appropriate use of boot-settings, tunefix, and auto-schedule-restore, the only thing left to configure manually after a factory reset (followed by a reboot) is the networking.

Even without any of those packages, WebIF >> Scheduled Events automatically backs up the schedule nightly, and makes the backups available to view and restore on the Backup/Restore tab.

Can you restore Channel settings? That is what takes the time.
… I.e. auto download, then edit to delete dross,
I do have some apps installed …maybe not the ones needed.

This is actually the entire point of the tunefix package!

Once the system has retuned itself, your prejudices concerning channel availability are automatically applied. I prefer not to have it delete channels unless they are actually useless; I select and reorder the channels that one might ever want to watch using Favourites (which are saved/restored along with the schedule).
