FVP-5000T: Problem Recording a Film with a mid-way News break

I have both a FVP-4000T and a 5000T and they both suffer from this:

If I go into the EPG and set up recording schedule for a film that has a news break (i.e. 1st half of film from 9pm to 10pm, and 2nd half 10:30pm to 11:30pm), the box often refuses to schedule the second half. No matter what I do, I cannot get it to record the second half of the film.

The only cure seems to be to completely power down the box and re-boot it. If I do this and try again, it successfully sets up a record schedule for both halves of the film. Is this a common problem and is there anyway to cure it without having to switch off the box and reboot it?

Thanks for your help.

Paul

When you ask it to record part of a split film it automatically sets to record the other half.
If you then request to record the other half it will reject your request as you have already set it to record.

I agree...but my box only automatically sets to record the other half of a split film after a fresh re-boot. I'm not making a request to record the other half.

But I haven't tried recording a split film as a series.....I'll do that later today.

Channel 5 always have a news break but I've never had a problem recording as series
The EPG properties for a programme specifically declare "split" as opposed to "series". Setting record should not offer a series record, it only offers to record the programme (unless the programme really is part of a series). Having set record, both parts (either side of the split) should record.

So is this a software bug? As I say, a re-boot of the box, temporarily fixes the problem. Other than re-booting, the only workaround I've found is to edit the scheduled first half and extend the duration to encompass the second half...but that obviously gives me the news item as well.

OK. A simple question. The box refuses to schedule the second half, but does it actually record it as it is supposed to after setting the fist half to record?
I.e. is this a question about a 'problem' that doesn't actually exist?

Sadly, it does not record the second half.

So is this a software bug?
My previous post was aimed at the poster who incorrectly referred to a split as a series - they are separate entities, and this kind of sloppiness causes confusion.

If it were a bug, everybody with a 5000T would be reporting the same thing. Is your firmware up to date? I suggest you try a "restore factory defaults" operation, and see if that cures the problem.

As mentioned in my first post, it happens on both my 4000T and my newly purchased 5000T ---- it's partly why I bought the 5000T 😞. Firmware date on the 5000T is 25th April 2019; I think the 4000T is similar (it's boxed up) .

Here are a couple of screenshots. The Specialist is on tonight at 22:00 on ITV4 with a news break; EPG correctly sees it a split program:

Before a reboot:

And after a re-boot:

Humax-FVT-5000T-After-Reboot.jpg

And the above is also reflected in the list of Scheduled Recordings. i.e. a single entry for The Specialist before the reboot and two entries when trying again after the reboot.

This didn't always do this on my 4000T....and might have started after the April 2019 update but I cannot be sure.

The reboot might be a red herring. All these things depend on the broadcaster setting up the correct flags in the EPG... which could be wrong to start with and corrected at a later date.

The PVR registers that you have set up the relevant CRID for recording; the rest is automatic if the EPG flags are right.

I don't know whether this is related to the OP's problem. I discovered that "Magnum Force" was on ITV4 last night part way through the first part of the split . I searched the EPG to see if there was another showing. There is, and it is also split. I clicked on the first part of the repeat - but the Humax (2000T in this case) decided to schedule the second part of last night plus the two parts of the repeat. Clearly there is something wrong in the CRID department. Given the problems I've described elsewhere, I'm beginning to wonder whether there is a general Humax problem or, more likely, an incorrect use of split programmes by some/most/all of the broadcasters.

This is a different issue to that brought to our attention by PaulW, and is specific to Humax freeview boxes. Broadcasters are permitted to use the same split identifiers for repeats providing at least 3 hours is going to lapse between the schedule end time of the last part of the original transmission and the start of the first part of the repeat. If you haven't already done so have a look at D-Book part A version 7, (because that version is the only one easily available), and see section 8.7.2.3 on the use of metadata and split events.
The Humax code is either not taking into account the 3 hour rule, or there is a bug in the code.

@PaulW, reading your description, and that over in the link you described, isn't this only an issue for last minute recordings, or if you keep the FVP on 24/7?
I though that the Humax FVPs had some essential housekeeping that was done daily and so needed to be placed in standby once a day. There are some threads on myhumax.org where owners who like their FVP on 24 hours have had to set up a short period of standby each day to ensure that the epg stays populated.

I have (now) and conclude that there are two problems. Certain channels are showing programmes as split, when they are not. That, and the problem I identified above suggest that the 2000T has a bug - it doesn't observe the 3 hour rule. Chances of it being fixed - nil. Connection to current thread - also nil.

It has recorded correctly tonight. I have set a recording for tomorrow and I will leave the box on overnight until the recording has taken place. I'll report back tomorrow afternoon.

David.
