HD-FOX-T2 - Web-If connection problem

Hi,

I have just pulled my HD-FOX-T2 out of the cupboard and applied 1.02.20 and relevant mod 2.15 - all seemed fine except access to Web-If.

I also updated my HDR-FOX-T2 1.02.32 & 2.15 mod and accessed the Web-If without issue.

When I try to access Web-if on the HD-FOX-T2 I get the message "this page can't be displayed".

I have checked the IP address, used both wired and wireless connections. Reapplied software without success. I also applied 1.02.29 and relevant mod 2.15.

Have I missed a step for the HD-FOX-T2?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Does the front panel display show "F215" during boot?

We have seen this a couple of times. Can you try accessing the HD-FOX by Telnet? See the Trail Guide (click) stage 3B footnote, and/or the Wiki HERE (click).

The Trail Guide is very out-of-date from that point of view, if you manage to connect by Telnet you will get a custom firmware menu rather than a command prompt.

Update: the reason the OP is getting no response to the browser connection is because with CF 2.15 (and lower) that's what happens if the CF has no working space in the form of an external drive (in the case of a HD-FOX). CF 2.16 (not yet released at the time of writing) will include a default web page to say so, rather than just give no response. See post 22 for further details.

I can ping and as requested, have connected using telnet to unit.

OK, select "cli" from the menu to get a command prompt, then try:

service stop mongoose
service start mongoose

It looks like we need the experts.

The only thing I have left to suggest is to go right back to scratch: install the standard Humax firmware 1.02.20, install CF 2.15 for 1.02.20 over it, and then connect to the WebIF with no USB stick plugged in. You should get a web page complaining there is no suitable drive detected. Then rebuild.

Thanks for your help.

I will do a bit of reading from the links provided and try again as you suggest.

Will provide update.

Thanks again.

For "exerts" read "experts" and for "the" read "there" (LOL - now corrected in the original post).

Yes, there is something wrong and as the experts seem to be off-line you can either go back to basics or wait for them to advise debugging. It would be informative to know what state you have got into, if you can wait.

Have you been able to bring up the initial webif installation screen?

Here are a few things to try (from a telnet connection) which may give more clues:

Code:
diag general
cat /tmp/rag.log
cat /tmp/modinit.log

Appreciate the advice.

I have not been able to get the initial webif screen.

I have attached the output of the diagnostic -

I have noticed when in telnet I do not have the expected commands - such as cd, service.

I have reloaded software a couple of times - currently on 1.02.29/2.15

Thanks.

Do you have a USB drive plugged in, formatted as ext2 (if flash) or ext3 (if a hard disk)?

I'm not using any usb drive on this unit.

The only usb device in the unit during booting is the Wifi.

I have tried booting with Ethernet instead with the same result.

In order to install the CF packages on the HD-Fox-T2 some external storage is required (since it doesn't have an internal hard drive). You can use a USB pen drive (which should be formatted to ext2) or an external USB hard drive (formatted as ext3).

Even so there should be a web page that says it needs external storage, so there is something wrong - but I had similar symptoms when I was trying to use a "bad" USB stick. See HERE (click)

reashaw: please see Custom Firmware Quick Start Guide (click) post 2, in particular regarding installing the custom firmware on a HD-FOX. Options to convert a FAT UPD to Ext2 (suitable for hosting the custom firmware) are now on the Telnet menus.

I believe I have followed the instructions as detailed. My expectation was that on completion of loading Mod 2.15 and rebooting with an internet connection I should be able to connect to the Web-If without having a usb disk attached. It is through this interface I can configure and if necessary add a USB disk to hold additional packages.
After booting with Mod 2.15 I'm not able to connect to Web-If as previously described. Am I wrong?

The Telnet Humax menu exists but it seems to me that the necessary commands - such as " service " don't. When I telenet on my HDR-FOX-T2 the Humax menu works just as it should allowing me to check status of services, including Mongoose.

The WebIF is itself part of the "additional packages" - the only web page you should get without going through the Internet download stage is either a warning that you do not have a suitable drive connected or (if you do) a page allowing you to complete the installation by download.

The CF can be used in a limited way where there is no intention to use the WebIF, by installing packages from USB - but there is practically nothing the CF will do for you without any packages at all (except a maintenance environment for disk checking and the like by Telnet).

If you believe you followed the instructions as detailed, what happened to:
Before you begin, you will need:
  • For HD-FOX only, an external USB drive for permanent connection (see Preparation section 3).

Preparation

For HD-FOX only it will be necessary to host the custom software on a permanently-connected USB hard disk drive, formatted to Ext3. Connect the drive and format it with the Humax utilities (if you are already using a hard drive to record, it has been formatted correctly and you can use that without risk to your recordings - do not reformat).
.
  • Format command:
Menu >> Settings >> System >> Data Storage >> Format Storage
.
It is possible to host the software on a USB pen drive, but instructions are beyond the scope of this guide. CF version 2.15 onwards includes a command line utility for preparing such a drive, instructions TBA.

I have a portable 500mb disk ready to go. This was going to be used if necessary when I had connected to the WebIF - but as I can't connect to the WebIF it seemed pointless connecting it ( using a USB if used the wireless dongle ).

So, when I reboot after applying the mod firmware - I should have the 500mb disk connected to allow connection to the Web interface?
