HDR-1000S STB Mode

I've been given one of these boxes to compliment my T2's and Foxsat box.

I believe there is no CF or hacks to allow archiving of recordings. Is it possible to make recordings in STB mode, and if so can the recordings be archived? I believe the EPG is not available in STB mode, if so can recordings be set manually. Is it much the same an old Technomate box I have, on which recordings have to be set manually. Only an exercise in what's possible really, try it, and then forget about it.

Although the CF on the T2's and the Foxsat is used extensively.
