Humax FHR-6000T Will this need its own listing in the forum? ( Now named the Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder)

I think I had one once - but for some reason I returned it. Such a long time ago...
The Pace Twin was very unreliable initially. Pace did a final OTA software update a year or two after they had stopped selling the Twin, basically to shore up their reputation. I had two initially, then ran one with an HDR Fox T2. The Twins finally became unusable on the switch from 2K to 8K carriers, they made an attempt to receive that but couldn't cope and ground to a halt.

Many thanks for the replies.

I completely accept that it can't record Freely channels, but I would have expected a recording option within the main EPG for those channels that are delivered via the antenna, ie not streamed. Instead, it appears that one has to use a separate EPG which is the crudest I have ever encountered. Really not viable. Unless I am missing something, but I am technically literate. Perhaps the Freely EPG doesn't permit a recording link even when integrated with a Freeview receiver that shows all channels, including those that are recordable?

I also have a Humax HDR-1100S 2TB from 2017 and a HDR-FOX T2 from 2010, both of which have perfectly useable EPG's. I can’t quite accept that Humax have now, sixteen years later, released something so fundamentally flawed. It feels as if Freeview, and recording, have been employed almost grudgingly.
From a Freeview aspect it is a truly awful piece of kit. I uninstalled Freely within half an hour of receiving the box in order to make Freeview recordings work, but its function as a Freeview recorder is truly the worst I have experienced, despite recording more reliably than the original Humax Aura. It really is astonishing that in the 2026 media age such a piece of junk that is so hard to use and has such a poor human interface can be released onto the consumer market. I could allow for something this difficult to have been released in 1981, but not in 2026.

I advise everyone reading this thread not to consider buying it for Freeview. Get an older Humax instead.

Yes, I keep recommending second hand HDR Fox T2s off ebay. The particular advantage of that model is the custom firmware on this forum and knowledge of the members about issues that might occur on the box and how to fix them.

I have seen some mention of uninstalling Freely. Can anyone advise me how to go abut this please and, when uninstalled, is the dreadful 'Recording Guide' replaced by a half-decent, usable Freeview EPG? And can Freely be reinstalled? Thank you.

Freely can easily be uninstalled and reinstalled. I can’t remember how I uninstalled it, but probably through the Menu then Device settings then Apps. This forces it to use the basic Freeview guide to set recordings, but all the channel numbers remain as Freely, so really irritating. I keep getting prompts to reinstall Freely so I’d say it’s very easy to do.
I advise you to uninstall the whole box by throwing it out the window tbh.

Do you still have it connected to the internet?

Showing the Freeview channels with Freely numbering rules it out for me. Back it goes on Monday! The combination of the Manhattan T4-R and Aero 4K, together with my existing Humax HDR-1100S 2TB, HDR-FOX T2, Panasonic DMR-BWT735, Sky Puck and Apple TV will just have to suffice! Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it.

I had a Humax 8000T which amply demonstrated the Humax lack of vision as it was not possible to watch a recording while it was still in progress - just like the VCR recorder which it replaced! 🙄
So did I... and I remember when the 7 day EPG finally arrived on Freeview, the Humax memory could only handle about 4 days worth. There was no 'accurate record' - so the last few mins of almost anything were missed... a frustrating machine but the build quality was reasonable (metal shell, power supply was built in, remote was quite responsive).

I then went to a Thomson dual-tuner box with 14-day proprietary EPG (one of those 3:00am 'broadcast via a text service' EPG jobs - it couldn't handle last minute changes to the schedule, you had to wait for the following day's EPG transmission). Inverto and Sony had similar type boxes. That was not too bad - I actually quite liked that Thomson recorder. In actual fairness, only about 10 days-worth of the EPG made sense. The rest of the days 11-14 were largely guess-work; because of that, Sony apparently locked their box to a 10-day EPG.

Yes.
BTW over the weekend all my recordings were again named by the channel and time broadcast instead of the programme name. This box is totally useless to me because I don’t want to use Freely. I’m think going to put it on EBay and I have just bought another 5000T which is the box that I have had most luck with previously. It was either that or another Fox. As I said upthread, my Manhattan T4-R failed and became read only, my original Humax Aura failed every other day and now the EZ has failed repeatedly.

What a s***show.

Maybe - Richer Sounds if I can find the box. I’ll do one or the other.
I think I’d actually feel sorry for whoever bought it from me on EBay.

I had boxes for kit which I'd already taken to the tip, until another recent purge. Still got all the rest though.

I never understand people who dispose of boxes instantly or before this point.
I always keep the boxes with the receipt in them.

Some larger items (eg. "white goods") the installers take the box. I suppose I could ask to keep it.

I put receipts in a safer place.
Is it just me or do all receipts fade over time? They can become blank after 6-12 months. How can you then prove you bought the item? (Remember to take a photo of the receipt and get one emailed to you are the obvious answers!)

I read elsewhere in an article about Freely where ( I think it was referring to TV's) they said that if you removed it from the internet it would after a little while revert to being a Freeview TV. I wonder if the same would happen to the EZ and it would also revert to the guide showing the normal Freeview channel numbers, maybe you could give it a try and let us know please also did it still allow you to record, thanks.

I read that somewhere. Don't remember where or whether it was a reliable source.
Clearly that couldn't apply to the Manhattan Aero - no aerial input.

More than likely the same article, I think I posted a link to it here :) .

Edit... Found it " As a last resort, if your Freely TV is disconnected from the internet for a longer period of time, it will begin to behave like a normal Freeview TV. In time, it will revert back to the Freeview channel numbering system. That’s because without an internet connection, it can’t connect to the Freely channel list."!

Yes, depending on the print technology. I hate it, but letting retailers email your receipt is actually useful.

The fading till receipts are printed on thermal paper (goes dark when heated), because it's cheap and only requires a roll of paper as a consumable (no ink / toner). If the receipt gets hot, it will go black.

Not having a receipt is not fatal to a claim, but does rely on a retailer being willing to check their own records. If paid by card rather than cash, there will also be evidence in the card account.
