Humax FHR-6000T Will this need its own listing in the forum? ( Now named the Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder)

The fading till receipts are printed on thermal paper
We are not supposed to put them in the recycling bin here. I've a big stack of supermarket ones. Must tidy up soon. General waste or recycling? I've a feeling I'm going to be naughty and recycle them!

I shred them to get rid of identifying details so they go in my green bin for compost collection. I have no idea if I'm supposed to do that.

I read elsewhere in an article about Freely where ( I think it was referring to TV's) they said that if you removed it from the internet it would after a little while revert to being a Freeview TV. I wonder if the same would happen to the EZ and it would also revert to the guide showing the normal Freeview channel numbers, maybe you could give it a try and let us know please also did it still allow you to record, thanks.
OK. I’ve switched off WiFi and also disabled “let Google’s location service and other apps scan for networks even when WiFi is off”. I’ll unplug it for a while, plug it back in and leave it for a couple of days to see what happens, but my 5000T will be coming on Wed/Thurs so the EZ has two more days to prove itself viable as a Freeview box, before it is replaced by an old timer.
I’ll let you know if anything happens.
BTW, my recordings over the weekend still don’t have names, but ones from 11pm yesterday onwards today do. It’s baffling.

I’ve had WiFi switched off since yesterday evening.
This morning I notice my overnight recordings again have no programme titles.

The TV guide is still Freely style numbers but for most channels inc HD fully updated up to 10th March 7 days ahead with programme information, many others like BBC One & Two 800, Film 4, ITV 2 & 3 are only updated to later on this morning and shows no sign of updating any time this lifetime. The signal is very good with no digital artefacts or break up. The box has been switched on for one hour.

So I thought I would try an Automatic Channel Search to see if it would update to a Freeview style numbering system and update the guide. No dice. Quote

“Cannot start channel scan while recording is in progress. Please try after recording is finished.”,

but - you guessed it - there are no recordings in progress at all.

So I in plugged it for a minute and plugged it back in again. It still claims I am recording something and won’t let me do a channel scan of any sort, but it has immediately fully updated the channels that were previously not updated - and for the next 7 days (again in Freely numbering style) but simultaneously deleted the programme information for all the other channels that were previously OK, and now they won’t update past this morning. I thought this must be something to do with me changing from watching BBC One HD to Sky News, so I switched back, but no change at all.
There’s obviously a bit of a programming fault with this box, you can’t even search for a software update, it just immediately says “OTA update failed”.

It’s just a lot of trouble for no apparent reason, it will waste hours of your time and make you very annoyed. I advise anyone not to buy it.

I think what I might try tonight as a last goodbye to this box before I murder it is sacrifice all the last month’s recordings and just do a factory reset without turning on the internet or Freely if it’s possible.

OTA update failed
If the WiFi is disconnected it wouldn't be able to update.OTA usually refers to over-the-air (ie. through the aerial) and that method of software update has long gone Humax should know that - so that message is misleading.
It definitely sounds like the EZ is an expensive door stop.

OK, so tonight I will do a factory reset over WiFi and refuse to install Freely.
It has updated the Freely style numbered TV guide OTA to the 10th of March but there is no sign of Freeview style numbering happening.

Do not let it connect to your WiFi, and it should revert to normal Freeview LCNs and order. At least this is what a Freely TV will do.

" As a last resort, if your Freely TV is disconnected from the internet for a longer period of time, it will begin to behave like a normal Freeview TV. In time, it will revert back to the Freeview channel numbering system. That’s because without an internet connection, it can’t connect to the Freely channel list."!
Really? That sounds very vague, and I wouldn't give it much credence without some kind of published specification to back it up. What does "in time" mean? The only reasonable interpretation (assuming it isn't "immediately") is once the Freely IP-EPG has expired.

At least this is what a Freely TV will do.
Is said to do... unless you have direct experience?

From the user manual:
To enable Freely services, an internet connection is required.
To access Freely and enjoy all features including On Demand content, connect your device to the
internet and accept the Terms & Conditions.
• If you skip this step, you’ll still be able to use the Humax interface with limited features (e.g.
live channels only, no Freely On Demand
The implication is if you don't connect to the internet and skip the terms and conditions you will only get the Humax interface and no Freely. But don't try looking for updates!

Brian has mentioned that he owns Freely TV's so hopefully he is speaking from personal experience and will confirm it as being fact and say how long it takes to fully revert.

It may well just need longer to take full effect.

OK. My 2nd 5000T is coming on Wednesday and I’ll be setting it up that evening and plugging it in where my EZ is at present. So I will continue to leave the EZ until then still disconnected from WiFi and won’t attempt a reset just to see if Freeview kicks in properly. Crossing my fingers.

What with your actual hands-on experience of the box, I wonder whether there is a low-level 'reset' like the Aura has... the one where you remove the power at the mains socket, press and hold the power button on the device, apply the mains power AND CONTINUE TO HOLD THE BUTTON FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS.

I’m not sure. The flimsy guide that comes with it is almost useless.
I’d like to reset this box with a chainsaw tbh.

OK, after 48hours of no connection to WiFi my Freeview guide is still in Freely format, but has updated to cover the whole day 11th March, 7 days hence. So either it has updated that over the aerial or it has sneakily used the internet without my permission. Recordings yesterday were unnamed, recordings today are named, so it’s nothing to do with the internet connection.
I am unplugging it this evening when my 5000T gets delivered. Tonight the EZ will be replaced by a 9 years old piece of kit, and Freeview will be functioning well once again. Embarrassing for Humax. Maybe South Korea don’t really use or care about Freeview, but I still very much do, and this EZ is an expensive substandard underdeveloped piece of rubbish.
They shouldn’t have sold this box using Freeview as a marketing draw - it was dishonest - and I hope the amount of returned boxes puts them out of business tbh.
