Humax FHR-6000T Will this need its own listing in the forum? ( Now named the Aura EZ 4K Freely Recorder)

This has now appeared on Humax Direct website.
I still seems a little deceptive to me...................

"Record up to 4 shows at once" Next to a picture of a TV showing the Freely logo and just a mention that an aerial is needed for recording then the FAQs at the bottom..............

"Can I record Freely programmes
Recording is available for live TV received via an aerial using the Humax recorder.
Freely streamed content is designed for live viewing and on-demand playback over Wi-Fi and does not use the hard drive for recording."
How hard is it to just say NO.
Also APPS seems to be a dirty word still apart from the mention of a Humax AuraEZ app that is not available yet and certainly no What Apps can it get question in the FAQ.

I wonder if the AuraEZ App will be a revamped version of the standard Aura App, as that never worked properly for me.

Hopefully more streaming Apps will be added in due course.

I could not even get the Aura App. It just seems odd that they are not even mentioning the Apps it can get now. I am pretty sure Prime was mentioned before but all I see now is a pic with i.player, itvX ,4 ,5 & +More. When the Aura was released they made a huge fuss over all the wonderful things you could get (apart from Netflix which they avoided mentioning) . Yes I see it as Hot on their site, I looked to see if anyone had reviewed it but nothing yet.

I now know why :(

"Here’s the detail that will disappoint many people who were expecting a device like the original Aura.
The Aura EZ has no third-party streaming apps beyond the Freely platform itself.
No Netflix. No Disney+. No Prime Video. No YouTube. No Google Play Store. Nothing beyond the broadcaster apps that come as part of Freely – BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, 5, and a handful of others."

Yeah

No play store..I looked everywhere, even in system apps. (Incidentally, ALL the apps in the app list look to be non-native webapps. Few hundred KB each

That makes it much more limited than the original Aura, but it might be okay for people who aren't interested in extra apps.

It does seem a bit pointless that it has Freely, that doesn't require an aerial, but if you want it to record, you do need an aerial.

I have Freely TVs in rooms that don't have access to a TV aerial, and they work well, but in the case of the AuraEZ it doesn't make any sense, as it does actually need a TV aerial or it won't record.

I suspect that quite a large number of these will be returned when people realise what they have bought isn't what they thought they were buying.

We were worried that it would turn out to be just an Aura with Freely bolted onto it but it turned out to be less than an Aura with Freely bolted on, I hope nobody is holding onto Humax shares.

I got one from Richer Sounds. I previously used the original Aura which I liked for its ability to record 4 channels, and I liked the interface a lot, but it suffered from unexplainable power failures and mysteriously refusing to record random episodes in a series which was REALLY frustrating. I also had a Manhattan T4-R which I didn’t like as much, the picture quality was poor, it was slow to respond and eventually the 2TB hard drive became ‘read only’ and I just kept it to access my old recordings.
So I bought the EZ as a replacement for those, and I immediately found I had to uninstall Freely to search the Freeview programme guide, so I did. I won’t particularly miss it, but however, I think the search function is a big downgrade from the previous Aura. For instance if using search you find a programme you want to record in 4 days time and press OK it won’t take you to it - just to whatever that channel is broadcasting at present. Then you have to skip forward through the guide. So I am hoping that gets updated. And I think if I want to watch Prime or YouTube I’ll have to plug in the old Aura again. I don’t have any other subscriptions.
I am still happy with it though - since receiving it I set it to record about 20 programmes (some are series) and I have had zero failures and zero power losses. That is my main requirement so I count that as a definite improvement (touch wood), and I also noticed very good picture quality, though bear in mind I’m using an old Panasonic Viera (not 4K) and my eyes have seen better days…
Another thing I just noticed is that watching Freeview you can’t time shift while recording something, which is a bit of a pain. So the Freeview side of it although seemingly very reliable compared to the old Aura is not quite as user friendly.

Got mine late yesterday, is it just me, ITV1HD on freely isn't on ch3 grouped with the other main channels 1 to 5, its on 233. CH3 is Itv sd. Can't see a way to change it. Along with the other voiced issues, wife acceptance factor is not good at present.

On Freeview Channel 003 is ITV3 sd 103 is ITV3 HD so if the list is in numerical order HD is way down the list but on an Aura you can create a favourite list and put things in the order you want. Is there something similar for the Freely channels?

Agreed with Freeview 103, with the other main channels HD. On freely it's different though and no favourites function.

Keep hold of the receipt and the packaging, it looks like you may be needing it to prevent an expensive divorce.

Dunno about Freely on this. I think it’s a definite no if you want Freely. If like me you don’t give a monkey’s cuss about Freely you might be happy with it as a four channel Freeview recorder that so far is 100% more reliable (who knows what’s going to happen in the future) but a lot more inconvenient than the original Aura.

A pair of second hand HDR Fox T2s from ebay would make a four channel Freeview recorder for less than the cost of an EZ. And you can install the custom firmware (see elsewhere on hummy.tv) on them.

Yeah, but I have one of those and it was also quite unreliable. I bought it intending to transfer my recordings onto an ext hd, but never got round to it. So far despite the inconvenient user interface the EZ has recorded everything I have asked it to. There is still time…..

Yeah, I do tend to be. That, my Humax Aura and my Manhattan T4-R all tried to make my life worse 😤, so if my EZ works out reliable that is a big thing. At last!
