Interesting Items...

What party was it suggesting that?
I thought that Labour's 'open door to immigration' principle had been pretty much discredited by all parties. Or was it that they seemed to want to change the population dynamics in favour of Labour just as they did with the boundaries? Could be that I got those ideas from the DM though.

National Insurance was a short-term solution too.

Not really. Politicians seem afraid to set a realistic level for either NI or income tax. When I were lad, the lowest rate of income tax was 33%. Now it is 20% (temporarily 10%) and on top of that successive governments have failed to collect tax from rich individuals and corporations.

Our health service costs roughly half of what the private insurance in the USA costs. That is quite a bargain. In this case, you don't get what you pay for. Plus, in the US, who is going to give a 90 year old a decent health insurance premium?

As I said, it was a journalist on the BBC commenting on the front pages. She seemed to think that large families were a solution to balancing the books. My thought was that it would be a long-term Ponzi scheme.

So what is the solution? Bring back the Poor Law? Workhouses? Euthanasia? Health care and survival into old age only for the better off?

"Yes, but with our ageing population what we need is immigration. The immigrants who come here generally have large populations of children and that is what is needed to support the increasing numbers of retired people in Britain."
It's the biggest pyramid selling con scheme going. Stupid journalists can't seem to see it.
We all know what happens to these schemes. Lots of people get VERY upset down the end of the line.

Lots of people get VERY upset down the end of the line.

But they all eventually die, so that is OK. In the meantime, all the world's resources get depleted.

As I said, Ponzi written all over it.

Maybe those greedy -ankers who are shovelling billions into their private vaults should be made to recycle some of their excess dosh. Very anti-American I know, but desperate problems need simple solutions. (A guillotine might loosen a few fingers :) )

Unless they've updated it, it will only work on a 24V system. Not that common over here!
Heatmiser do one too and since they're a UK company it's 240V.

I did like the way the nest one can use their smoke alarms to enhance the detection of whether the house is empty and, conversely how the smoke alarms can shut off the heating if they sense CO. I'll probably put the smoke alarms in when my current ones get to their end if life.

I have eagerly been waiting for this item to become available, It's an add on for an android smart phone that turns the phone into a thermal imaging camera, they built it to work with a smart phone to keep costs down (e.g. no display, battery, processing, storage etc.) link here :-

http://therm-app.com/

So how much is it? How much would I pay for something that is essentially something to play with?

£50? . . . . not Quite, It's $5000 ! ! !

The 24v is supplied by the main unit. Ideally, you use the original 240v pair of cables from the old thermostat and reconnect them at one end to the 24v terminals on the main unit to the terminals on the remote.
A neighbour has this unit, ready to install.
If you look in the user guide, avail online, you will see this option.
Otherwise you have to use a plugin transformer for the remote unit.

The remote communicates wirelessly with the base.

EDIT: page 32 of installation guide (terminals T1 & T2). By the way it's 12volt not 24.

Lovely. More WiFi-bandwidth-sapping RF interference. Fixed installations should use wires, not RF links just because it's easier.
