Is there a way to read exfat SD / USB cards?

Hi All,

I've got an SD card formatted to exfat. Is there a way for the HDR Fox T2 Humax with custom firmware, to read it? It's from a digital camera so would be nice to simply be able to plug it in to see the pics.

aha! no I didn't do that. Ok, I've done that now and rebooted but it's still not showing up when you press media and change storage to USB. I've also looked on webif media and gone to drive1 but it's still not showing up. When I try a fat32 card it works fine.

Any ideas?

Does anything useful show up in /tmp/rag.log ?
Do you see an extra entry in the output from ls -ld /sys/block/sd?

IIRC the exfat package needs some setting up. Please read the thread relevant to that package, which is (as are most packages) indexed here: https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/index-of-package-primary-topics.8005/

The index linked above is pinned near the top of the Custom Firmware section of the forum, so there's no excuse.

What I meant was:
Make sure the USB is unplugged, then run ls -ld /sys/block/sd?
Then plug it in, wait a few seconds and run the command again.
Do you see any difference in the output?
Nobody knows what disks you have connected to start with, and packages like the virtual-disk ones make a difference.

So I don't need to compile (still trying to work out the process if that's the case)? should it just work?

I've rebooted the humax, no USB plugged in (well... except the virtual one) and below is the info.

Hmm, I think this line might have appeared before I plugged in the USB as when I plug it in and then unplug it again, no other lines appear

A little more investigation. I have a USB hub which has different memory slots. So I plugged that in (with the SD exfat card in) and it seems to show the different drives but still not recognising the exfat card (so it should be one of sdc, sdd, sde or sdf)

So it is /dev/sdc that the slot is in but it says it's read-only. It's not read only - I've even double checked the little tab on the side of the sd card and also just tested I can take a photo via the camera and it's fine.

still no USB drives visible in the Humax UI or Webif browser.

I then tried mounting manually but I don't think I'm doing it right.

and whether it has any partitions: cat /proc/partitions | grep sd

Just one thought. This SC card is 64Gb. I am just wondering if I am hitting a limit or sorts. I don't have anything smaller at hand to test just at the moment. Have other people just installed the extension and it's worked for them or have they had to do some manual mounting or something?

It's how the memory card came, in the camera. I'm a little unsure if it will read an NTFS formatted card. More difficult to copy all the stuff off it at the moment, reformat and then copy back on.

Sometimes SD (etc) cards go into a read-only state regardless of the file system or RO/RW switch and may be stuck in that mode.

Had a Sandisk USB drive do that when providing a bit of NAS on a TP-Link C8 router being used as a WAP.

Apparently it happens it when the controller detects a file system error and puts the card into RO mode to protect the contents. Can't remember what FS - it handles FAT32, exFat, NTFS or HFS+ - and it was replaced FoC under warranty.

Canon PowerShot SX620 HS

It talks about exfat in the manual (licensed by Microsoft). I assume it will most likely cope with fat32 and maybe ntfs but as I've mentioned I would find it useful to get the humax reading exfat rather than reformat the memory stick (that's last resort).

Yes, it just works. I've got an SSD attached to a SATA-USB converter though. I can't remember now whether having virtual-disk2 installed is a requirement or not, but that's a side-issue.
