I've had weeks of trouble box freezing restarting alsorts.I tried another HDD which helped but still failed the HDD test so I bought a new one.

My question is; is this normal for a new HDD: all these "old age" results

It's just the terminology they use, It's not a problem, every perimeter has either type = pre-fail or type = old_age. If you want to get an idea of it's age check out the 'raw' value in line 9 Power_On_Hours, mine is currently 6799, your is Zero ! !

You need to look at the column titles associated with each parameter on the lines. From what I remember, the column which contains "Old_age" entries is a fault type rather than a flag for an actual fault. The real information is in the figures.
