Keep humax hdr fox t2 on using RS reminder

Hi All,

Is it possible to set a series reminder via RS (sew pic) to keep the box on and stop it turning off after the various recordings that I've set? I have the OTA disable feature too setup but could delete that if that might cause an issue (not sure if I still need that these days?).

Will setting it up 12:00am to 12:00am next day trick it?

The reason why i want to do this as i need to humax to stay on whilst I'm downloading big files and the download speed is rather slow.

Thanks

Rodp

If you change the Automatic Power Down setting to off it shouldn't turn off (Menu button>Settings>System>Power Management). If on it will power down after three hours without user input.

Problem is I'm not at home to do this, so was trying to think of another way.

Next time it's on i can vpn in and do something via telnet if there is a way to change this power management system setting via telnet?

You can set the power off settings using the boot-settings package

The reminders should work but can cause conflicts to be raised and use of the remote control can cancel a reminder, probably not a problem if no-one-is home.

Update.... setting a reminder for daily 24 hours causes RS to send me a recoding conflict email. I'll ignore them for now ;)

They are real. A reminder schedule blocks up one recording "channel", leaving only one available for actual recordings (or two if they happen to be on the existing muxes). Reminders take priority.

What you really want to do is leave the box on 24/7 (like many of us do) - that means disabling any auto-standby and physically turning it on.

Oh I see, I thought it was the other way round as when you are watching tv sometimes you get a message saying the humax is going to switch channel in order to record.

I've now set the auto power down to off using the boot settings package and will remove the reminder.

Thanks

Correct. But that's passive watching rather than active "turn on or change channel because I've scheduled to watch this".

I've now set the auto power down to off using the boot settings package and will remove the reminder.
Have you taken any measures to defend against crashes?

Always a little nervous about turning off devices with hard drives without following the normal shutdown procedures. Anyone experience problems doing this?

But you can. Set a standby period for an hour or something in the middle of the night (or whenever is least inconvenient), and do the power cycle within that window. The only difficulty is ensuring GMT/BST doesn't move the standby window away from the power cycle, or that a power outage doesn't completely cock up the power cycle timing.

If the system crashes, there is no option but to power-cycle the HDD.

The only reason I haven't done this yet is inertia (and having three systems to do it on).

I have a time switch in place. Left since our last vacation since the socket is not easily accessible.
I do normally put the system into standby before going to bed.
If you were concerned you could use a timer driven task to put the humax into standby (if it can) prior to the time switch time

E.g. I use a smart plug

Been looking at this MoesGo WiFi IR Control Hub or this MHCOZY WiFi IR Hub as this might then allow me to control the powering up of the Humax and other stuff, eg using an IR controlled power switch. They advertised that it's only for remote controls that use 38Khz, I assume that's standard and that will work for the Humax (HDR Fox T2)?

Has anyone got any experience with these or use a different make?

Thanks

Rod

I would plan to use it to turn the humax on aswell as controlling a power switch to power cycle it in the event of it crashing.

The ones i found seem quite cheap but perhaps that is the going price these days.

For the MoesGo:
  • to see compatible brands and devices, check the Smart Life app.
  • Customized DIY copy function allows you to control even more devices by "learning" them from the original remote;

They appear to be the same device, using the same control app, even if packaged slightly differently, with "errors" in their descriptions.

For the MHCOZY:
Support 36KHz Frequency

IMO, these are devices sourced from China where a chip or circuit board is made available by an electronics specialist, and then packaged into products by second-tier companies, and then bought as a job lot on Alibaba for retail in the West or even stocked virtually by third parties who add a cut but the item is supplied direct.

Something to be aware of is that the control app might well have very little in the form of security. Assuming anybody wanted to, it might not be difficult to take control of your home AV! Clearly this has much greater import when dealing with security cameras.

FWIW, I think I prefer the packaging of the MHCOZY.
