Humax have just released firmware version 1.02.27 for both the HD and HDR models.

The HDR update consists of three new parts:

Code:
HDF Tool v1.0.2, by af123, 2011.

Opening hdr_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf, 19433202 bytes.

  Blocks: 630
  Model: 4
  System ID: 80bc.7e00

File Offset Address Type Flags Size Uncompressed Size
---- ------ ------- ---- ----- ---- -----------------
  1 0000014 0000000 1 0x80 16419978 16474112 (0.33%)
  2 0faa45e 1e00000 1 0x80 1912021 1914668 (0.14%)
  3 117d423 1a00000 3 0x80 1093527 2097152 (47.86%)

If you cross reference this with the known flash layout (http://wiki.hummy.tv/wiki/Internal_Flash_Layout) then you will see that these parts are:

1 Root filesystem
2 Kernel
3 backup (which currently holds the newer version of the Sky Portal).

The HD update is slightly different:

Code:
File Offset Address Type Flags Size Uncompressed Size
---- ------ ------- ---- ----- ---- -----------------
  1 0000014 1c20000 0 0x80 392866 890844 (55.90%)
  2 0060032 0000000 3 0x80 15683580 15736832 (0.34%)
  3 0f566e6 1600000 3 0x80 1912092 1914668 (0.13%)
  4 11296f2 1a00000 3 0x80 1093527 2097152 (47.86%)

1 Bootloader
2 Root filesystem
3 kernel
4 backup (as above)

This looks like the flash filesystem is being restructured slightly (the kernel is being moved down to address 1600000 which will reduce the available space for the root filesystem) - odd because 1.02.20 unified the flash layout across the HD and HDR.

There's part of the second stage bootloader included in the update too.

Interesting that it's now released after we commented last week that .26 had leaked out.
Quite a disappointing change log on the whole though that doesn't address the most serious of bugs or the IPTV compatibility.
Hopefully they still have at least one staffer working on this for another update.

Scuttlebroom : What happens if a user was to upload this to their HDR which is running the latest custom firmware?

All Custom Firmware features would stop working, However the file structure that holds the Custom feature would still be in place and hopefully they would come back to life after the installation of a (Yet to be written) 1.02.27_mod_1.27

I guess the No.1 question is, is there anything in 1.02.27 that will prevent there being a 1.02.27_mod_1.27 being created
EDIT
As mentioned above, There isn't much to this new release anyway, See Notes Below :-

- HDD Test option added to Data Storage menu
- Improved Audio Description volume levels
- Reliability improvement
- Modified on screen messages regarding Network changes / re-tuning
- Universal Remote feedback messages on screen
When a mode button is pressed on the remote (PVR, TV, DVD, Audio) an image appears on screen.
If a mode button is pressed in error when trying to control the Humax product user is informed on screen to press the PVR button.

It has been reported by a user that the 4Gb streaming bug has been fixed
Some Sky player support is built into this version ( Custom Firmware still required at present)
Loss of 'Favorites List' as current, has been Improved
The Reliability improvement = 2 fixes for ' always-on' working (no further details)

As Ezra said. I'd add that with any new firmware there is always a chance that it cannot be customised, nor to revert to one that can be so I'd hold on for now.

I see that the release notes for the HDR version on the Humax Beta website mention "Loader version: a7.31 / a7.32". Does this mean that the loader will be updated from the current a7.30 ?

We know that there are boxes out there with loader version a7.31, but I've not seen any mention of a7.32 previously.

It shouldn't be a problem on the HDR model - they have changed very little apart from the core Humax software.

The upgrade process for boxes with custom 1.02.20 on them is slightly complicated because the 1.02.27 update replaces the backup section in flash - looks like they might have upgraded the Sky Player there...

The good news is that 1.02.27 can be customised.

There are a couple of obstacles I need to overcome and some testing to do - I plan to release an updated customised firmware package on Saturday morning.

If you do install the official firmware over customised in the meantime, please do run the prepare_for_upgrade diagnostic first as otherwise some packages will become broken when you install the new custom firmware at the weekend.

All worked OK for me too, and have downgraded back to v1.02.20 and re-installed the custom firmware, all working perfectly!

Look forward to the new Custom Firmware.

One note, I didn't see Sky player on TV portal when I upgraded to v1.02.27, was I looking in the wrong place?

I think this is code sitting in the background for when Humax enable it on their TV Portal web service, made accessible by the custom TV portal package rather than the native portal at this time.

I'm guessing the Loader (ie. a bootstrap) isn't upgradeable... or at least isn't upgradeable as part of a firmware update - I think what Humax mean is that the new firmware is designed to work on a7.31 and a7.32 only (but fortunately for us, also appears to work on a7.30)

Am I missing something? 1.02.27 isn't an "official" release yet so installing this could effectively invalidate your warranty or cause other problems? Wasn't there a bug in 1.02.026 and that's why it was never officially released? has this been fixed in 1.02.27?

Right - it's in the flash but you need one of the custom portal packages to activate it for which you'll need the customised 1.02.27.
It's still branded as Sky Player - does that suggest that Humax won't be activating it?
