Really? Can you cite a reference? Our HDR worked without problem pre DSO on signal strengths below 30% on some MUXs.Good strength & quality combined. I'm sure its been mentioned before that the HDR needs a good signal as opposed to other equipment.

You are obviously not getting any signal gain via the DVD when it is unplugged so it is hard to say what is happening. I suppose the DVD could be passively filtering out some unwanted interferance or maybe you have a suspect co-ax lead, If they have metal plugs (rather than molded ones) you could try re-terminating themk64 : signal is good, even when the DVD is unplugged
I thought the results in #8 showed that, It looks like the signal is too low if the HDR is at the start of the chain and the signal is being boosted when the HDR is at the end of the chain
