No teletext causes odd pop-up

Just curious while I'm here:
I dont know if this is new or just because I've only revcently started using a local net and I've
just not noticed before but...
If a chanel has the 'i' for info (ie Teletext symbol) and you try to load teletext
when that channel doesn't use teletex an odd pop-up appears.
Sometimes you have to select multiple times to get it.

Could this be because I don't allow the boxes on the inet or is it something else?

What "i for info"?

an odd pop-up appears.
What "odd pop-up"?

BBC services suggest to "press red". That means the red button (out of red green yellow blue), which brings up data from the Red Button data channel LCN 250.

Could this be because I don't allow the boxes on the inet or is it something else?
Wouldn't make any difference, the HDR-FOX has been left behind for anything Internet, and even when introduced any services which should have been delivered by Internet crashed the box.

There are plenty of services listed in the EPG which have no broadcast transmission and would be delivered by Internet to a smart tv, but they won't work on HDR-FOX.

I'll just ignore the sad sack above shall I?

Mostly news channels seem to have the teletext available icon here - I don't know if it's different in different areas.
press the "info" button look for the "i" indicating teletext normally found only on BBC channels.
To get the pop up just press the 'Text' button on any channel other that BBC you don't expect teletext to be on but
the icon is showing
eg one of the news channels - sky news or GB news - you may have to press the text button repeatedly on the remote
if you get the pop up you cant miss it - big blue background

I took a screen shot - I'll post it shortly - I expect someone may be able to ID it.
(Actually I had assumed it was already seen and someone knew what it was from)

I can't reproduce what you've said, and I'm having trouble believing what you have photographed is output from the HDR-FOX.

I believe your TV is displaying that itself, and not originated from the HDR-FOX.

After other posts in this thread it became obvious that you were referring to the I-Plate.
You should have stated where you were seeing the "i".

As already stated in the replies, the internet does not have anything to do with teletext.

No.
It does not appear for some channels that display the "i" icon on the i-plate. and as you have subsequently admitted it does not appear on every click

Sometimes you have to select multiple times to get it.
Really?
I have never seen this on one click.

If you display the i-plate for the current channel while the anomaly is displayed then the I-plate is clearly on top of the image. If the anomaly were from the TV then how could that happen?

Perhaps because something is getting handed off to the TV over the HDMI data side-channel. However, as you seem to be able to reproduce this, how exactly are you doing it?

Update: OK, I've done it (LCN41)!

I take that back, sorry. Never seen anything like it before. Perhaps if we can work out what's happening, we can use it to present WebIF data direct to screen!

I'm doing this on HD-FOX, by the way.

This is not a "pop up", it is a text console overlay.

The only way to clear it seems to be to change channel.

It seems to be the result of overloading the command input with text commands.

It still happens with the network disconnected.

I have confirmed it originates at the HD(R)-FOX by turning the TV off and on again (which should clear any overlay originated by the TV).

I've just tested this on my Humax devices. All those (9150T,2000T,5000T) that claim to do teletext display the blue screen message. So far I need to hit "text" ten times for this to occur. A single press does nothing. Which probably confirms BH's idea that the command input is overloaded.
The Aura doesn't do teletext - and guess what? No message - no surprise!

Here's the complete screen dump from my HD-FOX. Note the difference in the "WAI:" line. I presume the screenshots above were from HDR-FOX, and include a "HMX7E0000" string. "HMX" = Humax? Or is is HM x7E0000??

"ICS FAILED" might refer to Internet Connection Sharing.

Could this be some kind of process crash triggering a development debug console to appear?

I concur. I've had 10 to 13 presses required, apparently regardless of how quickly I do it (0.5s to 4s between presses).

I am also able to trigger it by recording a macro of 15 TEXT commands in the WebIF remote control.

This snap was from TalkingPictures TV. No blue background or as much text. (Also, unlike the Legend snap instead of displaying the i-plate I went into settings and updated the transparency to 75%, but the anomaly was already lacking a blue background and had less text.)

The 2000T dump gives HMX80BC7E and the 5000T - HMX8B0000. I would guess HMX=Humax. As for the rest - I'm sorry I haven't a clue. :)
Those have got to be memory locations, haven't they? In which case the X might be the hex prefix.

Testing services up to LCN100 which show the "i" icon on the i-plate:

Interesting: analytics disabled; whitelist loaded...

I spot checked services without the "i" icon, and they do nothing. I note that on BBC services, response to the TEXT command is deferred until the "Watch in HD" pop-up disappears.

There seems to be no consistency where the "i" icon appears. EG: TRUE CRIME yes, TRUE CRIME XTRA no.

There is no doubt (in my mind, anyway) these irregularities are the result of broadcasters doing something not in accordance with specification. What is the common factor? The mux? Whether it's DVB-T or DVB-T2?? Update: no, all over the place (I added the mux details to the table above).

Just run a test on my Samsung TV. Sky Mix, many presses of text and ignoring message from TV about the channel not providing the service.
Blue message screen with WAI starting SAMH0421 - No "X".
Clearly the message is coming from the Teletext engine.
