Poor Viewing During Recording

Bought the PVR last week and immediately had issues with recording and viewing. Normal viewing whilst not recording is good 100% quality and 80+% signal strength. Problems begin as soon as I start recording and change channels, the picture starts freezing every second and the audio stutters, sometimes the other channels say no signal during recording. The quality strength goes from 10% - 100% every couple of seconds and the signal strength stays at 80+%. The quality of the recording also suffers and is barely watchable caused simply by flicking channels.

Is there something I can do (tried resetting) or do i send it back to Currys. Any help much appreciated!

Just had a reply from Humax customer support - here it is

'The freezing problem you’re having with your Freeview box is happening because the box needs a software update.

We are sending out software updates throughout the next week to fix these problems. Please see below the dates for when the software will be broadcast for your unit.

To download the new software please follow these steps.

Turn the Humax box off from the power.
Take the aerial out of the Humax box.
Turn the power back on but make sure the aerial is still out.
When the Humax box powers back on press the MENU button on the Humax remote.
Go down to Installation and press OK then enter your password (0000).
Go down to Software Update and press OK.
Carefully reconnect the aerial.
Press OK on Automatic Software Update.

The box will now download the new update automatically, once the percentage reaches 100 you can press exit to return to live television and you shouldn’t experience any more problems of this nature.'

I'm pretty sure the manual says 'do not connect aerial while the power is on' , anyway these are direct instructions from HUMAX !

Doesn't sound like the same issue. Yesterday a change to Freeview caused any Freeview SD Humax pvrs not on the latest firmwares to lock on a single viewed channel and also lock out the remote control.

The change has now been reversed presumably to give everyone a chance to update their boxes. The OP's post is nothing like this which is a new problem.

I am a bit dubious at the reply from Humax, I thought it could be a tuner issue. I will give it a try on Saturday 17th. If it doesn't work I will probably send it back.

My system won't find the update, I go onto the manual software update , hit OK and the signal quality goes from 100% to zero and therefore cannot find new update. I'm spending way too much time trying to sort this out, any ideas before I return it ?

Return it, something seriously wrong.
