Problem recording more than one channel

Since powering off my Humax Foxsat-HDR I have a problem recording more than one channel. Before doing this I was able to record 2 channels.

There is a single cable from the sat. dish and have looped it from the 1st tuner to the 2nd with another cable. Both Tuners show in the diagnostics as having a good signal strength (>90%).
I have gone into the secret Antenna menu (R G Y B G Y B) and changed the setting to 2 (same cable) and then tried resetting the unit. However the unit when going through the initial configuration does not detect two inputs and therefore will not allow two programs to be recorded.

I have done this process several times, changed the loop cable, inspected the inner core, upgraded firmware and loader but all to no avail.

If someone has and idea as to what I can try I would be grateful. It is frustrating to know the unit can do it but does not allow it.

Software Version: HPRSFCI 1.00.21
Loader Version: U 7.54
System ID: 3768.0000
Postcode: RG2 9FG
Tuner 1: 10817, V,22000, 5/6
Tuner 2: 10817, V,22000, 5/6

Wrong setting 2 cables(same) means two seperate cables to same dish. Make sure you have the one cable on Tuner 1 in and the loop from tuner 1 out to tuner 2 in. Any other connection won't work. A reset should set up single cable working if the connections are correct.

OK, thanks for the information

1) So should this setting be set to "one cable" even though there are 2 connections?
2) Will this still allow 2 channels to be recorded. As this had been working with the same hardware and cables before I powered the unit off?

Yes and Yes. 2nd channel to be recorded must be in same frequency band (high or low - very few high band channels) and polarisation (horizontal/vertical) as the transponder tuner 1 is using.

You can also watch any other channel sharing a transponder with either recording (any other in same band and polarisation if both recordings are from same transponder). If your connections are correct the reset should have set this up correctly anyway.

OK, perhaps I misled you with my original problem description.

Before I powered the unit off I was able to record BBC1 (101) and record BBC2 (102) or ITV (103) at the same time with the same hardware and cable and loop through. However now I am not!

With the setup you suggest above, if I record BBC1 (101) I can only choose channels like 106 (BBC Three) 108 (BBC One HD) 109 (BBC HD)... (probably same frequency band and polarisation as you suggest).

I just want to get back to the configuration that I had before. Perhaps after the software upgrade it has stopped this working. I am sure the last time I got this working I had to use the secret menu as described above.

Any clues?

Probably the channels have changed transponders. Tune to 101 and press opt+ note the transponder details, repeat for 102 and 103 and post the details. It's impossible to avoid the limits of two tuners sharing a single lnb. Also tune to ITV1-HD and post which transponder you are using. Once I have the info I can suggest some tests. You should have a lot more 2nd channels than you have recording BBC1, without knowing which region I can't tell you which these are.

Did you check the connections as I suggested. The one coax to the dish should be on the connection nearest the edge of the box, the loop connects the other two. There's no need to access the secret menu at all.

It would be a co-incidence if it changed channels around the same time as I powered the unit off and on.

The connections are as you specified.
I know you said there are limitations but it was working before so I am at a loss to know what has changed other than the settings in the unit.
I guess the proper solution would be to get a dual LNB fitted with two cables would prefer not to if at all possible.

The ONLY pair of these you can record with one LNB feed is 102 and 103.
Just accept it or get another cable put in.

Try recording any of the following with 102 and then 103, you didn't need to list all the channels. Only 101 102 103 and 119 are affected by the postcode you used, the rest are the same for everybody.
Post if this works and which channel pairs you want to record.
