Red Ring still getting things wrong, blue LED when in standby

Redring has quite a few functions, full list HERE, I'm guessing Owen had the 'ring' options and the 'display' options enabled, they are not linked to each other. As he found the 'ring' options unpredictable, he has disabled them, leaving the display options still in place

Exactly.

They are not linked to each other so I don't understand how turning off ring colour changes could make display text seem much more reliable (I haven't noticed that it was unreliable but maybe Owen has).

I never said there was any problem with redring's display text changes. I don't think anyone ever said such in this thread. Why are some people jumping to conclusions?

I turned off the colour changes in redring, because the colour changes are unreliable and I want predictable, reliable behaviour above other considerations eg. the colours. Turning off the colour changes has made redring reliable, in that the ring behaves how Humax wrote it and the display text changes work exactly the same as before I turned off the ring changes.

Is that clear enough for everyone? (Good grief....)

Hi Ezra Pound

Following on from post #14 and #15, I remembered that I had turned the Red Ring log off sometime ago as I felt it was unnecessary.

I have now turned it back on as it may give some clue as to what is happening when the wrong colour ring is shown sometimes.

If anyone else wishes to check this, from memory, it's the second option (debugging) in the Red Ring settings.

Fine. I said nothing about the reasons for no interest from developers, only that there didn't appear to be any. We all have othet things to do.

Your box does seem to be doing this far often than others. I get a blue ring in the morning maybe once every couple of months.
I've made some changes to the code to see if it improves things for you/Wallace and I'll upload it once tested.

My aunt also gets the blue ring in the morning on a roughly weekly basis, and I've also seen it several times at my parents. That's four boxes including my two. Not all set up the same, since my Aunt has no internet access.

But that is normal because even when the unit correctly goes in to 'Amber' it will still display the above while it is shutting down, I think there is a 'Changing to Amber' redring message sent, but the unit goes into standby before the message can be stored, so it never actually gets logged

Just as an update, I haven't had the 'blue ring' at all on my [Green] HDR in the past 2 weeks. However, it has happened twice on my [Orange] HDR.

AFAIK, the only package that has been updated in that time frame was the Web-IF.

I've updated the redring package to version 2.15. This version has been running on my box for a couple of weeks and it hasn't missed any recordings (which is my main concern when modifying this particular section of code). I haven't had any blue rings in that time either but that doesn't guarantee that it's fixed!
