Remote Scheduling Media List Update

Hello
Seeking advice on the part of the RS package that updates the media list on the portal. My parents have a T2 each. My Dad’s box updated the list of recordings everyday. But my Mum’s can go months.
It has a network connection when it’s on and it’s on for hours every day.
I once uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Does any kind person have any other suggestions?

Cheers

Try running the rs/sync diagnostic on the webif Diagnostics page and report the results.
Check the RS settings page and make sure email is correct,
also what is the 'Last Seen' date and @af123 would need the unique identifier number

Try running the rs/sync diagnostic on the webif Diagnostics page and report the results.
That should hopefully show what's going on, for more detail on just this particular part (pushing the media list), you can also run the rs/diskpush diagnostic.

Sorry for the delay in replying. The hot weather and visiting my parents, I’ll say no more.

Settings and email look right. Match the second box that works as expected.

Prior to running this diagnostic the list of recordings was from the beginning of June. Having run the diag the list was suddenly up to date.

My untrained eye doesn’t see any warnings.
Interesting the diag caused an update. Would the Unique Identifier be of assistance.

Black Hole maybe right!
Since running the diags it has updated again.
May I ask two questions.
How often does it update the media list? So I can check (in an obsessive way) that it really is working?
For technical interest, would the diagnostic have corrected/overwritten something that had gone screwy?

If you go to the bottom of the RS home page after the recording schedule you will find the Device Log which will tell you when it has Updated disk contents
1658493671521.png
It should be daily,in my case shortly after boot, but should run even if you don't power off

(Sigh) My last entry were I said it seemed to be working was the day before I left my parents, who’s box this is.
Between July and Christmas it updated once.
I’m visiting again for Christmas and would like to ask the community here if they have any other suggestions.
Running rs/sync from the diagnostic page promptly updates the list of recordings on the rs web page. Why is it not running automatically?

Check the crontabs file using the webif file editor, it should contain a line like
Code:
*/10 * * * * /mod/sbin/rs_process >> /mod/tmp/rs.log 2>&1
which runs rs-process every 10 minutes

Check the crontabs file using the webif file editor, it should contain a line like
Thank you for the suggestion.
I’ve never played with the editor before. The contributors to the CFW have done an amazing job.

The file contains this

0 2 * * * /mod/sbin/anacron -s -d
*/10 * * * * /mod/sbin/rs_process >> /mod/tmp/rs.log 2>&1
  • * * * * /mod/monitor/run
  • * * * * /mod/webif/lib/auto/scan >/dev/null 2>>/mod/tmp/auto.log
  • * * * * /mod/webif/lib/auto/deq >/dev/null 2>>/mod/tmp/auto.log
0 3 * * * /mod/sbin/tunefix-auto

The line you quote is present.

Why is it not running automatically?
Maybe you need to run fix-flash-packages? Can't hurt.
Then do touch /mod/boot/no_plugin_autodisable from the command prompt to stop it happening again.

0 2 * * * /mod/sbin/anacron -s -d
*/10 * * * * /mod/sbin/rs_process >> /mod/tmp/rs.log 2>&1

  • * * * * /mod/webif/lib/auto/deq >/dev/null 2>>/mod/tmp/auto.log
0 3 * * * /mod/sbin/tunefix-auto
The forum software has interpreted the content as markup. You need to put dumps inside "code" tags, or at the very least "plain" tags.

Is there anything obvious in /mod/tmp/rs.log ?
Unfortunately entries are not time stamped so you may need to clear the existing log and then wait 10 minutes or so to make the current messages more obvious.

Maybe you need to run fix-flash-packages? Can't hurt.
True, but rs doesn't have any components in flash so it won't help directly, unless there is an external problem.
Then do touch /mod/boot/no_plugin_autodisable from the command prompt
Or run the plugin_autodisable/off diagnostic.

It would be useful to check that the cron service is set to auto startup and is actually running.

Another file that should be checked is anacrontab that list the daily tasks (it appears that none of these log their output)
1672416723844.png

Thanks guys. Looking at the various suggestions.
How do I check off cron is actually running?

Hello Gentleman and Ladies, I would like to update you on this post I started in case it helps anyone.

3 T2 boxes all configured the same. One updates every few days reliably. Second hasn’t for several years. A third new one of a few months also wasn’t.

I started trying various suggestions from this thread on the second box only. Fix flash packages followed by touch /mod/boot/no_plugin_autodisable. Waited a few hours but no disk update on the rs portal.
This box had a second problem that the colourful graphs of HDD, cpu temperature etc. never appeared. Attending to that problem I found this https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/sysmon-cpu-usage.6493/#post-164079
And this suggestion from prpr (thank you)
humax# cd /mod/monitor && mv monitor.db temp.db && sqlite3 temp.db ".clone monitor.db" && rm temp.db

After running that I got the graphs back hooray. Later I saw a disk content update on the rs website.
I ran just the fix for the graph on the third box and have since received disk content updates.

Updates from all boxes have continued since New Years. Well I’m happy.

Two points I’ve noted. All three boxes only update every 2 to 5 days. I thought it might skip a day if there were no content changes. But have noted times of new recordings and no update for days. I had previously observed they only seem to update at the first boot of the day, providing there is a network connection at this first boot. These boxes belong to old people who turn the router off frequently to save money, so first boot and internet can miss each other.
Secondly, I discovered how to force a disk content update via the rs portal. Send a command to delete a recording and it updates the disk content as part of the job. The folder Deleted/webif_autodecrypt always has something in it that can go, so if I need a quick fix an encrypted Corey can go.

No surprise there, as that has nothing to do with rs. It prevents other things stopping working and fixes them if they are currently broken.

I can't correlate one with the other. Running the mentioned command fixes the graphs, but nothing more.

What does the log on the RS web site say? I get stuff like this every day, without fail:
21/01/2023 02:05:30 Updated disk contents.
I had previously observed they only seem to update at the first boot of the day, providing there is a network connection at this first boot.
Try running this at least once a day on each box and see what it reveals:
for f in /mod/var/spool/anacron/*; do echo $(basename $f) $(cat $f); done
These boxes belong to old people who turn the router off frequently to save money
OMG. That just causes more problems that it solves.

Here’s a snap shot. 15th and 16th once. Then not again till the 21st. Does yours do it several times a day?
