Renumber Package

Hi All,

I've just had to replace my hard drive and tried to reinstall all the packages. The "Renumber" package appears to be no longer available on the Web IF. I found the package "renumber_1.0.0_mipsel.opb" and downloaded it. I thought that packages could be copied to a USB stick and installed from there just by plugging it in when the box is up and running.
I can not get it to install. Can anyone tell me how to do it please?

That is the correct procedure for loading from USB, unfortunately the USB interface on the Humax is very choosey about what it will and won't copy files from, I would try another Flash drive and also read through the Wiki notes (Click HERE) , if you can't manage to load the file via USB there are other ways to install this file by FTPing it onto the Humax

I'm in a similar position to the OP. I have just bought an HD-Fox to complement my HDR (and test the magic of Foxlink...).

I'm a long-time user of Renumber, and have never migrated to Tunefix (it's really overkill for my needs). While I realise that Renumber is deprecated, I'd like to continue using it if all possible.

So, I FTP'ed the renumber_1.0.0_mipsel.opb package (can't post links, but it was downloaded from the "Customised Firmware - Features Available" wiki page) over to the HD-Fox. However it wouldn't install via the Telnet CLI interface. Looking at the file in a hex editor, it appears to mainly contain null data so the installation problem is perhaps not surprising - an extract of the beginning of the file is below:

Code:
4E 6F 20 70 6B 67 20 28 72 65 6E 75 6D 62 65 72 29 3C 62 72 3E 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
etc.

Is there any way I can source a working opb (or opk) package for Renumber? Or any other hints?

Thanks in advance.

I'm "out of office", but have you downloaded a package format intended to be auto-installed via USB?

Thanks BH. I tried installing via USB but no dice.

I think the issue is that the opb file is essentially empty - the ASCII version of the beginning of the file is:

Code:
No pkg (renumber)<br>

...followed by several bytes of zeros - and nothing else.

an extract of the beginning of the file is below
Which translates to "No pkg (renumber)<br>", so obviously a bit of an error in the bundle build process which is still trying to build something where that component no longer exists. The bundle file should be deleted from the generation system too.

I don't understand why tunefix is overkill - install, configure via GUI on the WebIF, reboot, done.

If all you want to do is shift 101 to 1 etc. then tunefix strikes me as overkill as well.
But I'm with BH on this one for the other 'facilities'

Well, as that's two now, I wonder if there is something in it that the rest of us have missed. :frantic:

Wasn't one of "the other 'facilities'" that with Renumber the settings would get wipped when the mux was removed as part of a retune, but with tunefix the renumbering settings are not impacted by a retune?

ckster
According to the relevant thread, renumber settings survived a retune - but as that package is deprecated I see no point in discussing it. tunefix replaces renumber and channeldel, end of.
In practice persistence after a retune did not occur with renumber, and has already been discussed.
In the context of this thread it is relevant as the use of tunefix just for renumbering LCN is also preferable over renumber if you want a set and forget solution.

Isn't it strange that some people MUST have the latest gadget/software version and others are of the old and time tested opinion that if it ain't broke then don't fix it.
And OP EFFUL has abandoned ship, so either has it working or installed tunefix or neither.
