Reverting to Humax firmware?

I'd like to run my T2 with the standard Humax firmware and start afresh, as the reboots seem so random. Sometimes for several days without a glitch and then every couple of minutes.

I have a stick with hdr_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf on it. but it is ignored when I power down using the rear switch, insert the FAT 32 stick and power up again. It just loads the custom firmware. If I do an RMA via the Telnet menu will my recordings remain accessible.

TIA Peter

It's not very likely changing the firmware will solve the problem.

If you've formatted the UPD in Windows, it is possible the format is not compatible. Win10+ has a habit of formatting GPT rather than MBR.

Alternatively the UPD isn't powering up quickly enough for the Humax firmware update process to spot it's there before timing out and continuing with the normal boot. You need a UPD which powers up more quickly, or perhaps power the UPD separately through an adapter (I was planning to test this but never got around to it).

See Things Every... (click) section 12.

That depends. If you've used CF tricks to enable installation of a HDD in excess of 2TB or otherwise move away from the standard Humax formatting, maybe not. Otherwise, of course they will (how many times...)!

Few suggestion there. I'm leaning toward a hardware fault. I'm going to check the fan out in case it's overheating, I'll also change the HDD and see what happens.

I am using Windows 10. Would 11 be a better prospect to format the USB stick?

I shall try a different USB stick and see what happens.

I have a 2TB drive in the there but I'm not sure if I used any special "tricks" to format it.

I only be doing one thing at a time, and I think the first will be to check the fan. If that looks OK I'll change the HDD.

Thanks and I'll gep you all posted.

Take the disk out, leave it out and then see if it crashes. OK, it's no use as a recorder, but it might be the standard capacitor fault.

I did sort the PSU last year, but just in case, I put a scope on it (12v per div y axis, 5 sec per div x axis) to see if the voltage was disappearing. It wasn't.

It's early days yet but since I reverted to the Humax firmware yesterday, now 30 hours and counting, I've had no problems. I'm waiting for it to fall over, but if it's still OK after a week, I'll reinstall the CF.

I did try replacing the HDD with the 1TB drive I removed from it when I upped it to 2TB, but it prompted me to format it. The last time I stuck it in a cradle and plugged into the front of the T2 I I was able play the media that was on it.

Thanks
Pete

I wasn't referring to the PSU. The capacitor fault discovered by Newcoppiceman controlling the switched 12V feed to the disk drive is what I meant.
There have been some recent posts to that thread.

Yes, that's what I fixed. Still looking good this morning, no reboots.

It has been performing as it should every time I've used it since Tuesday, up until tonight, that is. I selected the T2 on my TV and it was doing a reboot. It did a few more until I removed the RG45 patch lead to the router which, was posted as a possible fix my earlier thread. That was an hour ago and it seems to be OK. I think I'll give it a day or so and see how it goes. Any suggestions to rectify this problem? Is worth reinstalling the CF and leaving it disconnected from the LAN?

TIA
Pete

What earlier thread? It makes it hard to follow if you don't give a reference.

Yes. Did you try dlna-filter though?
To look at an earlier thread would only cloud the matter. It is what is covered in this thread that is relevant.

No, I didn't try dlna-filter. I'll give it another twenty four hours, and if there are no crashes, I'll install the CF and the dlna-filter.

Tks

I installed CF six hours ago and I had no issues with the T2. As soon as I plugged in the Ethernet connector the system crashed (I thought I'd have to wait a while) so I logged on and let the CF do its thing for a few minutes. Added dlna-filter a few minutes ago. Time will tell, but I'm sure your fix is going to do just that. 🤞

Thanks again.
