I despair with them...
I sent two items last weeked, one Signed-for and the other Tracked 24 and neither have had positive outcomes in telling me whether they've actually been delivered or not.
I've ascertained by other means that the tracked one has been, but I shouldn't have to.
The Signed-for one has been diverted to somewhere with a Redirection. It's to a bank processing centre, so there's probably no hope of getting any sense out of them.
Either way, I've paid for two services I haven't received.
How do I complain, and who to and where? I guess on the website again (I already did this with something previously that went astray for 6 weeks, and they sent me some first class stamps, and eventually compensation for the loss (or what I thought was lost at the time)), but that doesn't get to the root of the many problems.
This time it's just signed documents and no actual loss, but it's just the damned waste of time and inconvenience and their inabillity to deliver the specified service that annoy me.
Does anybody else have any experience of this?

(A few months ago I received an eBay purchase that should have been tracked for the sender, and wasn't. It seems like they just can't be arsed to scan things properly at the point of delivery.)
(Yesterday I had a parcel delivered that "Requires a signature" and the delivery driver just handed it to me. That was DHL.)

Covid has a lot to answer for. No wonder courier fraud is such a problem.

I saw something I wanted on TEMU at a better price than Ebay or Amazon it stated it would be delivered by land by Royal Mail. and would take over a month. It was my first purchase from TEMU and I have little faith in Royal Mail so expected the worst but their tracking was excellent through multiple countries as was Royal Mail's when it arrived in the UK. Like many things in life these days it is the luck of the draw and nothing is for certain, availability has replaced reliability ......................................

I have had some bad experiences with Royal Mail at random times. I buy from Ebay & use click & collect. Its shown as delivered, complete with a photograph. The photo shows someone's legs & the ground they are standing on. Nothing of any use & because its down as delivered i lose out. Twice.

I received a Signed For item while I was away. Clearly it hasn't been signed for, just shoved through the letter-box like anything else. Checking the tracking number results in an error message stating they'll update the status once they attempt to deliver the item. This is rather difficult now that they have.
They just don't care.
Again, the sender hasn't received the service they paid for.

Last Friday I came back from a few days away to find two packets and one parcel scattered around my doorstep and the bell push stuck in (I admit it does that – but usually delivery drivers don't even notice it's there). I think both of the packets would have got through the letter box had they tried (one might have been marginal), and there were other packets inside.

Those outside were all Evri, those through the letterbox were Royal Mail (none "signed for"). The packets outside had been there since Monday.

There is no way they should have been left if they couldn't be delivered. I refuse to nominate a 'safe place' because I would then be culpable if an item was delivered and went missing. I think what's happening is it's quicker for the delivery driver to just snap and dash, and on the coal face, on a tight schedule, that's all they care about (even if management take a different view). I guess we've all experienced management making promises the employees can't keep.

Even Amazon drivers leave things outside and disappear before I get to the door, and that's assuming they ring the bell – quite often I only find out when I see an advice email. Once recently they did attempt delivery and take it away again – I was amazed. Next try was a drop and run!

The long and the short of it is, I regard Royal Mail as the least worst and the only couriers I am prepared to use.

I had some items (free - and useless - from Severn Trent Water) delivered by Amazon - although it could have been anyone, just a white van. A padded envelope pushed through the letterbox. I retrieved it and was greeted by a knock on the door. The driver wanted to take a photo of the item to prove delivery. Should have done what Royal Mail did when delivering my passport - take a photo of his hand holding the packet just before fully inserting it in my letterbox. That was uploaded as proof of delivery - well it looked like my door and it had the correct number on it. (And yes, I did receive it). Inclined to agree with BH. RM least worst.

That might satisfy tracking, but it's hardly proof that it was not then nicked.

Perhaps. I should say the packet was partially in the letterbox when the photo was taken and pushed through after. It wasn't left dangling outside the letterbox. If it had been stolen the likely candidates were me (why?) and the postman.

I have a subscription that is delivered by EVRI every 2 months, the seller proudly states that it comes in a box designed to fit through a letter box. I always have the same EVRI guy do the delivery and he left the first box on the doorstep which is elevated from and just 8ft in clear view away from a busy pavement almost at eye level. The second time I was in and caught him as he opened the gate, I told him never to leave anything on the doorstep again as I had something stolen before and he should use the letter box or if too large push it through the padlocked side passage gate. The third time I was on a ladder doing a job for my neighbour and saw him put the small box on the door step take a photo of it and about to walk away so I shouted down to him to put it through the letter box. I then went on the EVRI site and changed my details to say USE THE LETTER BOX. When the fourth subscription was due I was in sitting about 6 feet from my front door on my laptop and an email came saying it had been delivered a while before, same driver who had not even knocked on the door and the box was on the doorstep.

Have you told the seller that their proud boast is pointless as the delivery agent can't follow instructions?

As a detour, have you seen the advert for flowers by post, delivered in letterbox-friendly packaging? Can you imagine anybody you need to buy flowers for being happy to receive said items??!

No though I did rip into EVRI when I got the follow up "How did we do" review email , I have zero faith in it achieving anything but it was good to vent.

Something makes me think that some letters should be sent "Recorded Delivery" - or whatever it is called now.
Just received a letter from the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), with a stamp "whistl Delivered by Royal Mail", saying I haven't replied to an earlier letter and returned a form.
I can't send the blasted form as I haven't received the damned thing. Has Royal Mail or whistl lost it, or have USS not sent it? If the letter had been recorded in some way we might know.
I suspect it was never sent.

Even the photograph of the letter in the letterbox would do. It appears that the missing letter is important. Some record of the progress or otherwise would have been useful. More aggravation!
I have always gauged their performance by my bank statement. For decades I could be sure that my statement up to the 3rd of the month would arrive within a day or 2 of the 7th however over the last few years that has drifted to the low to mid teens and last month it got to the 21st and still no statement so I rang the bank to get them to send it again which arrived 3 days later a day after the original one appeared. this month it came on the 10th.
