Schedule Restore Failure

Black Hole

May contain traces of nut
A curiosity:

I just realised my HDR3 isn't doing what it is supposed to do (mainly grab the various news programmes), and discovered the schedule is empty except for one random entry I don't recall (don't read anything into that). After the Mendip retunes a couple of months ago I would have restored everything, but this problem dates back to at least mid-July.

So, I picked the most recent manual backup (intact) and restored it, but only a small portion of it has been entered into the schedule.

Now, I'm thinking, maybe I should try a system flush. Before I do that though, is there a log that would contain a track of the restore operation and could explain why this has happened?

Same result.

Maybe the CRIDs have changed? Would that explain it? The schedule items that survived are manual timer entries, not dependent on series CRIDs.

Even if the series crids have changed the entries should, I think, have been restored and appeared as finished entries in the schedule.

The other day I accidentally clicked on Select All, followed by Delete Selected (instead of Select Finished)
After an initial Oh shit panic moment I realised the easiest thing to do was nothing and allow the restore at the next restart do its thing
Next day the schedule was back, including all the finished entries and I was able to clean them up properly.

Following a lead in another thread:
Sounds to me like you need to run diag fix-flash-packages and reboot.
I had no idea fix-flash-packages could affect schedule restore, but I tried it and got an improved (but still not perfect) restore. What now? Is it time for a system flush?

fix-flash-packages will re-install :- crashdiag, dbupdate, fan, ir, multienv, poweron-channel, redring, rsvsync, tmenu, undelete, webif, webshell

. . . And possibly others?

You might need to be a bit more specific about what is / is not working
Perhaps if you viewed your backup and checked off the items that were restored correctly it might be possible to see some connection between the items that weren't.

Before the fix-flash-packages, slots 4 & 2 were also missing. I don't see any reason for that, and assume it's just fluke.

I'm about to restore manually, so if anyone has any ideas now is the time to say.

Nothing strikes me as obvious - BBC Wales has both success and failures.

Missing slot numbers (1,3,7,8,9) correspond to 5 missing programmes but slot numbers haven't been reallocated in same order as the backup is ordered (EPG refreshes have slots 0 and 10)

Possibly look for anything odd in the schedule databases rsv.db and rsvp.db
You could also check the timer list on diagnostics page - it should correspond to the schedule.
I would probably manually recreate the missing live entries, take a backup, and then clear the schedule and test a restore.
Then file under unexplained mysteries.

Right, so I've had a play restoring the old backup and a new one. The old backup continues not to restore properly, the new one does.

So, that means there's something wrong with the actual backup file, or with the restore process, or something has changed in the environment to confuse the restore. The first seems most likely, but why no error reports on restore?

Any suggestions where to go from here?

Yes, possibly, but there might be something to learn.

I think the only lesson to be learnt is that there is very little point in restoring an old backup and even less point in going to the effort of trying to make an old backup restore properly

Is nobody, particularly @af123, curious why it didn't restore properly? Why should there be a difference between an old backup and a new one? Dismissing this kind of thing didn't get us where we are today [CJ].

Anyway, the "old" backup isn't particularly old - it's the most recent manual backup (because all the non-auto-deleted auto-backups post-date the error), apart from the manual backup I've taken since correction.

If its any comfort BH I had that same problem after the last retune myself - on BOTH my live boxes (I have a third on a shelf for spares)
I've also had the same fault appear at the same time on both on more than one occasion.
Both are fed off the same aerial and through an amp box. (one of the problems was the freezing remote issue reported in another thread)
Another issue I had yesterday was no sound or video out - a soft reset was needed on both boxes to restore it.
This has happened twice now.

Both boxes began doing this at the same time some months ago (within a week of each other anyway)
I'm now of the opinion that either the signal from my distribution amp or the broadcast signal itself is somehow
affecting the boxes. (My mains supply seems clean and I've swapped all the cabling and the aerial run)

Sorry, leaves on the line at Epping.
Yes, I am interested; I have just been away and disconnected for a bit!

Let's have the backup file then.
