Yep I did think it might be the case.
FWIW, I bought the box second hand without a manual but should have downloaded it. On disassembly its labelled as a 1Tb model but fitted with a WD 500Gb!.

What model? The original 500GB ones and presumably the 1TB ones too were Seagate Pipeline.
[Edit] Suprised BH didn't jump in there and point out it had been there in the SMART screenshot posted earlier, where it's shown as a WD5000AVDS.

FYI the label on the base is as follows:
HDR-Fox T2/GB/1TB 7104706 63710470600138
The Plastic HHD cover has a white label with 1TB on it so its conclusive to me, someone had changed it.
