Surround Sound?

I'm rather confused about surround sound on Freeview HD. I understand it is supported but I can't seem to find anything that has it? I thought the recent Hebrides series was surround when playing on my HDR FOX T2, but when I downloaded the files onto my computer, XBMC reports them as being stereo.

Is anything on Freeview broadcast in surround?

There are a number of things broadcast with 5.1 surround sound, these seem to be mostly recent films, but there have also been other programmes, such as Doctor Who, The Big Bang Theory, Strictly come dancing, to name but a few. ITV programmes are not currently broadcast with 5.1 surround.

This may enlighten or confuse you:

I suppose it is still valid?

If that is not confusing enough, try this one:

Thank you everyone. Is there a way to know in advance if something is going to be broadcast in surround? Like details on a TV listing or in the EPG?

I am not aware of any advance warning being given about 5.1 surround broadcasts.

This site is claimed to show programme details that include Dolby 5.1 information, Please note that in my bookmark I have made the comment, reliable? this was more to do with them listing the wrong programme than with the accuracy of DD5.1 info, but as long as you bare that in mind, it did give Audio type info. I couldn't find anywhere else. http://digiguide.tv/ >> What's On Today >> Multichannel grid
BTW
The Jools Holland - Later . . . (High-Def. only) is always in Dolby 5.1

Thanks again all. I worked out why I wasn't getting surround after transferring to my computer. I use a Raspberry Pi with XBMC and this decodes multi-channel AAC as stereo :(
