Tablet Advice

The new Kindle Fire HDX is advertising a Mayday feature to contact technical support. The advert shows someone how he can watch a film on his TV. The call centre girl says just press that button and it will appear on your TV. No wires involved! Truly a miracle!

Or do you need a Chromecast or WiFi Direct or Samsung Link or some other newer TV? :p

It's 1 minute into this:

It does say so in the disclaimer fine print (on the TV advert, anyway).

Ah, yes, seen it now on the Amazon pages advert. It needs Miracast. That was in Android 4.2. You can get Miracast dongles for £20--30, no experience of them, but if they are pushing that amount of video from Kindle HDX to the TV then I would expect major glitches, with a very hot HDX and severe battery drain!

I have no idea if any of my devices are Miracast enabled but would guess not, even though they range up to Android 4.4. They all have "WiFi Direct" but my TV doesn't connect with any of them via that route. (2012 TV, updated to 2013 spec, with WiDi but doesn't connect to tablet or phone.)
