Tablet Advice

Ok chaps, I'm sorted now for enough information to go out and purchase a tablet. Thanks to Ezra and BH particularly for pointing me in the right direction and the introduction to Mifi.
Co-incidentally I received an email from the owners of the property in which we stay in Portugal to say that they are offering Mifi to their clients, obviously usage must be paid for, but it seems the way to go.
Thanks again to all who contributed.

Just in case anyone still wants to know, the SIM card for the mifi came from Spain (a retailer who specialises in supplying the expat audience), while the O2 was English

By the way, when I got the 3 MiFi (must be a couple of years ago now) I pestered O2 about offering one, and their replies suggested they were not interested. By the look of things other companies have jumped on the band wagon, so I wonder whether O2 have changed their mind!

Update.
Having narrowed down to two ( the aforementioned Archos and a Versus 10") I found time to visit PC World to demo both. The salesman had never heard of Archos! ( I suggested he look at their website) and the demo model of the Versus wouldn't work. After a whole two minutes of trying, he moved on to someone else.
I know I had no intention of buying from them ( John Lewis have a better guarantee), but he didn't know that.
I'm leaning towards the Versus here, so if anyone has experience of this tablet bearing in mind my OP, I would be grateful for any imput.

Thanks Ezra.

Incidentally, while in PC World, I chuckled at the incorrect spelling of the word "seperate", a common enough mistake but on their nicely printed cards it stood out.
A salesman asked to help and I pointed out the error. He replied " Ah yes, it should have two "p's"

In case anyone is interested, a 7" dual-core Android 4.1 tablet with 8GB store, WiFi, and 800x480 screen has gone on sale at Lidl today for £79.99. Get one if you can!

Anybody seen the quad-core Hudl 7" in Tesco? I had a very brief play and was reasonably impressed.

Tesco are also doing the Archos 80 Titanium 8" for £100 which can be reduced to £90 if you use discount code TDX-HF4K, link HERE, you could probably get the hudl for £110 with the same discount code, not sure

Looks good! For the record, the 80 Titanium is equivalent to an iPad mini at about half the price. If you wanted anything better, but without SD card slot, you would have to stretch to a Nexus 7. There, you get the latest versions of Android before everyone else, not that some brands ever get the updates.

Edit: The voucher code TDX-HF4K is showing as expired on a dummy checkout of a Hudl.

After doing all the reseach earlier, we didn't eventually buy one, believing we don't yet need another gadget. (We both now have smart ass phones tho' and I secretly kept up with Hummy Tv whilst away!)

We have just returned from a couple of weeks away and not having spent time in a hotel for many years ( bt-before tablets), we were surprised and not a little dismayed as to how many tablets, kindles and phones were used at the dining tables, paticularly at breakfast and to a lesser extent at dinner.
The few young ones gazed into their phones instead of each other's eyes and the older troop obviously used the ploy not to speak to each other!

I suppose it is a reflection of the times in which we live. I would be the first to admit that the computer and gadgets have enhanced our lives, but it was amazing to see the extent to which they seem to affect the way people interact (or not).

The latest game is for everybody at dinner to put their phones in the middle of the table. The first person to pick up their phone pays the bill.

I had a horrible feeling when you started that...

Not fair on the guy who is on call for work support. Not only are they not able relax properly nor have a drink but they have an extra phone which they cannot ignore if it goes off.

One of my daughters has her personal phone, her work phone and also the emergency legal aid phone when she is on call!

I got a Hudl last week. The one gotcha is the BT Sport app which does not do full screen properly but that is the same on all Android tablets it seems.
