If course nothing we didn't know plus government minister doesn't answer the question. You'd think it was a slow news day. I mean, nothing else is happening is it?

My guess would be no chance at all. The reason they are all so keen to go online is to prevent people recording and being able to skip adverts, no recording means watching again from the source including watching more adverts.

There was a glimmer of hope in some people's minds when the Aura EZ was announced. That was soon dashed Of course the true position is there is no chance of any reputable manufacturer producing a box that can record Freely.
On a PC yt-dlp/yt-dl can save programmes from iPlayer and some of STV (many but not all of ITVX). If this move to internet only continues people may produce (possibly illegal) software that could download from other players (4,5,U). Noone will integrate them into a PVR style recorder.

I have been using one of those for over ten years now as it is what the Youview boxes do to record the BTTV/TNT Sport internet channels. The recorded content is encrypted and you need to have an active subscription to be able to play them.

I found the Youview user interface so detestable that when my trial Humax box stopped working (they changed something in the Youview system that broke them) I didn't buy a replacement. The Youview trial was a waste of time, they ignored all the feedback they received from myself and many others. Large numbers of us said the user interface was awful, but they clearly didn't want to hear that.
