It doesn't seem to want to run fixdisk again. Comes up with this over and over.
Leave it for the 3 hours or so. It looks like it is running a long disk smart test in preference to the remaining fixdisk script.
I think that is why your front display is like this ==> front display shows ==> FixDisk Init.
It has only ran the start of the script , ie the short or long disk smart test and nothing else!
But that shouldn't matter as it does seem to be doing some good in reducing Current Pending Sector

See post 46 above. It isn't doing anything anymore. Fixdisk just refuses to run now.
Code:
Error - pending sectors but LBA not found

I did read that. You seem to have overlooked something, the paragraph just above

That is why I suggest wait 3 hours for it to finish!
Maybe next time answer 'n' on this particular prompt so that it can continue with the rest of the fixdisk script and not do the long smart disk check.
Although it is not obvious, it is doing the long smart disk check in the background.

Which is really helpful, thanks. However, I cannot unscramble an egg. The process was ended. After 24 hours it seemed to be doing nothing more. The box is out of maintenance mode.

It really isn't. The whole process is over. The box is back up and running in normal mode now, and refuses to do any more fixdisk operations. It refuses to start, right at the first hurdle.

It's already running in the background. WIth it running, going into the fixdisk option again reconnects you with the existing session.
I'm confused. How can it be running when the box is no longer in maintenance mode, has be rebooted, and even power cycled multiple times. I can no longer reconnect with the session, there is no session.
Using Telnet I have the option to start a new fixdisk operation (unlike before where it only offered to reconnect), but it fails as soon as it starts - with an error. Then it exits and takes me back to the main Telnet menu.
I'm just going in circles here now.

Running long disk self test
I think you're supposed to wait for the duration it mentions - 2:42 whilst it runs the long smart test in the background. Just leave the Humax alone for 3 hours. Powered on, no reboots, etc. After that you can reboot and check the web interface/drive diagnostics or use the 'check - Check self-test progress' option in the maintenance menu without reboot.

The "long disk check" is run by the SMART disk controller itself. The suggested duration is an estimate and might be significantly exceeded if the disk is bad. All fixdisk can do is check the SMART log to see if it's finished (although some SMART configurations don't even allow that because there is a mode where any SMART operation, even just reading the log, causes the current operation to abort).

This is the HD’s status now.

OK, I left it doing whatever it was doing all night, so I guess I'll find out now what the status is.

I also want to put a temp drive in there for now so I can test the rest of the systems stability.
Unfortunately a seem to not be able to learn from my mistakes, and have left the remote at home again!
Is there a way to format a blank disk using telnet? Since I cannot use the humax menu to do it?

EDIT: current pending sector has reduced by 1 to 23.
Do I just keep running fixdisk? If I have to run it like 20 more times at 12h+ a time, is it even worth it for a disk that is probably clapped out anyway?

  1. Use gfdisk to create partitions of the appropriate sizes;
  2. Use mkfs.ext3 to format the partitions appropriately.
For details see the wiki page linked below. I usually advise letting the Humax menus do it because then the process is automated and largely idiot-proof (with access to system tools, idiots can really screw things up).
