U&Drama and U&Eden Aspect Ratio problems?

EEPhil

I have my Aura's aspect ratio setting on auto (not full) as it usually copes with most channels. Last night (12/10/24) I tried to watch U&Drama but every few seconds the picture would go from 16:9 to 4:3 and then straight back to 16:9. My TV didn't do that. (I haven't checked other Humaxes, yet). Changing the Aura to full seems to stop the switching, but can cause problems with 4:3 broadcasts on other channels. I think this has happened before on one of the "U" channels.

Is this observation unique to my setup or have other users spotted something similar?

Deja vu? Also affects my HDR Fox T2.

Previous problems like this occurred on some (maybe all) of my Humax devices, but rarely on a TV. I remember it happening on Dave and Yesterday. That seems to have stopped. Admittedly I haven't watched Drama for a while, but last night was a pain! Looks like UKTV could do with some new equipment rather than shifting it between channels.

The brief change in aspect ratio on U&Drama is still occurring. I've noticed that this is happening on various Humax models. On the Aura switching to full not auto solves that but creates problems watching some 4:3 material. My older Humaxes don't have a "full" setting and the change from 16:9 to 4:3, however briefly, is irritating.

U&Eden, The Bill and my Aura don't play well together. I've been recording the old 4:3 episodes. There used to be 2 X 1 hour episodes back to back and now 4 X ½ hour ones. Invariably, the first episode plays back in a distorted 16:9 format and the remainder as 4:3. I've yet to see a live showing or try on other devices. Another Aura problem? (Possibly my use of padding isn't helping as the first recording starts on a 16:9 programme, but subsequent recordings start at the end of a 4:3 one.)
