Unresponsive to Remote (RM-F04)

Hi,
My HDR Fox T2 (Kitchen) has stopped responding to its remote control.
Its running 1.03.12 firmware.

I have another HDR Fox T2 in an adjacent room (Lounge) which is running CF with its own remote and is working fine. The remote from this one works on BOTH boxes.
The unresponsive kitchen remote doesn't work on either box.

I cleaned the lounge remote a little while ago with isopropyl alcohol due to some unresponsive buttons and it now works fine as above.

I have cleaned the kitchen one the same way with no joy. The batteries are ok and the PVR button flashes red like the lounge one but no response.

Any ideas please?
 
camera test works on the working one, doesn't on the unresponsive one.
So by "dead" does that mean throw it away ie there's no fixing it and I need a new one?

So although the button presses are detected and the PVR LED flashes to prove that, there is no IR coming out.

That depends on your level of competence. The conclusion seems obvious to me: (a) the IR emitter is faulty; or (b) there is a broken connection to it (probably a defective solder joint); or (c) the driver chip isn't driving it. In the case of (a) or (b), repair is within the realms of the possible.

and very liitle to lose by attempting it

Note some of the replacement remotes on e-bay are not true equivalents, they don't support multiple remote modes or controlling other devices, not too much problem unless you need those functions.

are there any instructions on here for attempting a repair? also what is or are remote modes? I don't use the option to control other devices

I had this on one of my remotes a couple of days ago, following some battery annoyance.
I just reselected mode 1 on it (via all the other modes, and out of sight of the receivers to stop the obvious hassle) and it worked again.

From what I have bought, and seen, they have supported that for some years. Of course a very old clone might still be available.

Well, you already said you've been inside one, so then it's just a case of inspecting the solder joints to the emitter, and if there's nothing cracked then source a new emitter and fit it.

I got the impression that mine was in mode "nothing" where pressing the buttons just made the PVR button light but nothing actually got transmitted out the IR.
I've never managed to get any camera to see infra-red. I'd have thought they all have filters these days.

Some do, some don't. Try the forward camera.

The may because the forward camera for your phone also has a filter. My understanding is that when the forward camera does also have an IR filter, the filter is a cheaper and lighter compared to the main camera(s), and some IR will still get through as it will also be less efficent at IR filtering.
