Is there a compelling reason to support uploads in the media bowser, given that there are other ways to copy files to the STB?

Only that downloads are available via HTTP when there are many other ways to skin that cat, and provision for uploads would make it symmetrical.

I find myself (occasionally) wanting to move videos around, typically MP4s from a camera.

I'm not sure I need them converted to native, although the option to do so can't do any harm. Obviously that would only work if the codecs are suitable for repackaging.
