What To Do with a Dead or Unwanted HDR-FOX, HD-FOX, or DTR-T1000/1010

I've not been able to resist buying HDRs when they've appeared up in local charity shops for £10-15 and the majority are the earlier twin-tuner version.
I never go in local charity shops, indeed I rarely go in shops at all these days apart from Sainsburys and M&S Simply Food. Perhaps I should start going in charity shops when I pass them, but the chances of there being an HDR Fox T2 in there on the rare occasions I'm passing seems low.

I have a HD-FOX T2 if anybody would like it. Pick up definitely preferred, Thame area (Oxfordshire/Bucks border, between Oxford and Aylesbury). Last time I checked it worked, was a while back tho.

I currently have 6 Foxsat HDRs and a Fox T2 HDR all bought from charity shops for €10 to €20, 4 of these are in use and 2 for spares (I have owned Foxsat HDRs since the first release and never had one die, they were really well made)

I'm interested, I'm in Didcot.

I have a working HDR Fox T2 that is on CF 3.13. Can’t upgrade to 3.14 I think because I don’t have a compatible pen drive. Good original remote. North Herts. Free

Hello all, I have just joined this forum because my HDR Fox T2 failed with what I thought was a power unit failure. No lights, nothing. It should be noted that for a month or so it had been failing to wake up from standby via the remote control or the power button on the front of the unit and had to be powered down and restarted using the power switch at the rear.

I got hold of a "for spares" unit on ebay which was powering up but not loading up, swapped the power supply board from the new unit in to my old unit but it still wouldn't power up.

I have checked / swapped the mains cables and the main fuse on the power board is conductive. None of the capacitors look bloated and there are no obviously burnt out components.

I am close to moving both these boxes on, but before I do does anyone have any further suggestions? Would swapping out any of the other components, such as the main power button in the front panel possibly help?

I don't want to spend a massive amount of time and energy on this but it would be nice to at least get some of the recordings off the box.

Thanks.

CHThree.

If I remember correctly, if the front panel is faulty or the connection between it and the main board faulty then nothing much obvious happens.

You could try just swapping in the one bought for spares. If that works then I personally would merge the 2 together using the brightest display and best condition outer black plastic casing, (and remove any red filter that is still in place).

Thanks. I'll give that a go.

An update on my dead HDR FOX-T2(s):

I took the display/front panel board from the donor, which was powering up, but going in to a boot loop, and installed it in my original player. There were no signs of power anywhere.

I think my next step might be to try both the front panel and the power unit from the donor.

I've now retrieved all of the recordings from my original HDD and have started unencrypting them. As the donor unit is in a boot loop, could trying the original HDD in the donor could actually repair that unit, or are such loops normally caused by other issues? ( I tried reinstalling the firmware which appeared to succeed, but didn't fix the loop)

Thanks.

Have you tried booting the donor without the hard disc connected? All you have to do is disconnect the cables to it. If it boots then there's a capacitor on the main board that needs replacing, and we know which one.

Well, that's progress.

Tell me more about this capacitor....
I can solder, sort of

I think going to the Aura is a good call.
Was this an April Fool? Are you regretting it now, 5 years on?
I am waiting to see how well the next software version (due in mid-April) works before taking the jump.
How long did you have to wait I wonder, and how did it work?
The HDR-FOX T2 has been the best Freeview box Humax have produced prior to the release of the Aura
Strike the last part of that and you would be correct.
judging by the amount of development effort Humax are putting into the Aura (which was sadly lacking on the FVP-4000T/5000T), I think they are aiming to make this the best box on the market.
😭 😭 😭

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?
Never had the HDR-FOX T2, but the 2000T wasn't bad, just had a small disk and a poorly built remote. Neither the 5000T nor the Aura have been well supported. Don't hear much about the Aura EZ these days. The best days of the PVR seem to be behind us.
