Where is the new Firmware?

Just phoned up Humax support. They said it would be available in the next couple of weeks...

<sigh>

Why do they even saying anything? Their constant promises make the situation even much worse. They should just say when it's ready it will be released instead of fixed dates and answers like these.

I'm not holding my breath regarding a release in a few weeks...

As this is a very old topic and yet is seems to get a lot of hits from guests, perhaps a summary of the current situation is in order (as of November 2011).

For the HDR-FOX T2 and the HD-FOX T2, the latest (and possibly last) official firmware update is 1.02.20, released around July 2011. As long as your box is able to receive the HD channels it will most likely have updated itself during one of the Over The Air update broadcasts. You can check your software version on the System Information page on the menus.

If you have not been updated for some reason, you can update your box manually by following instructions HERE (HDR-FOX T2) or HERE (HD-FOX T2). You will need to know your way around a computer to do it, but it is not hard.

There is no need to update if your box is doing what you want. On the other hand, you might feel you are missing out - the updates gratually improved HDMI handshaking and sound issues (some people still have problems, usually related to the particular TV set it is connected to), added and then improved the TV Portal (if you have a network connection to your HD- or HDR-FOX that reaches out to the Internet you can view BBC iPlayer), and added the ability for the HDR-FOX to stream recorded content onto the network.

There is also an amateur "unofficial update" which adds all manner of facilities we are not officially supposed to have. It is a bit techie, but none-the-less quite easy and many people have dived in and been pleasantly surprised. If you are interested, there is much on the hummy.tv forum to keep you occupied - even if it's answering questions about the plain vanilla out-of-the-box HD- or HDR-FOX T2. You could do a lot worse than START HERE (click).
