Which Freesat PVR ?

My wifes T2 is giving her & me grief. I need a quick fix and as I have a couple of unused satellite feeds I'd like to replace it with a freesat machine. Any advice, Humax or otherwise, would be greatly appreciated.

Happy Christmas
Pete

Or another 2nd user Humax Foxsat-HDR and install CF/nowster patch. (Allegedly circa £20 on CeX from another forum).
Your sig says 2x -T2 and one -HDR already.

Or fix the problematic -T2 box / buy another 2nd user one?

Enigma 2 type receiver/hdd to record unencrypted and stream around the home. Not for the novice, I suspect.

Only official freesat box is the "Arris" freesat 4k one that has a number of known foibles (see AVForums long threads).

Yes I do have a couple of T2's and a HDR. I'll certainly spend a bit of time fixing the T2, but I just need a quick fix to keep her happy. There are a few receivers but I don't know if posting a link would be Spam. I do have an old Technomate and the one below looks good.

Thanks & Merry Christmas.

Enigma boxes and the required special firmwares to emulate freesat via the interweb are not my field of expertise.

If / when my -HDRs and -T2 give up the ghost I'll need to investigate them in earnest: assuming Broadcasting from terrestrial transmitters and satellites don't end (or I expire) first.

AVForums have a few 'experts' so a search on there for that brand/model might help you. Some there recommend dSCR lnbs to work with Enigma and have 8 or more tuners available... streaming to users as needed.

I'd just get a Foxsat T2 if I needed a Freesat box. It's old but there's Raydon's media bundle and Nowster's patch, which is as close to the custom firmware we have the luxury of on the HDR Fox T2 freeview box as you can get on Freesat.

I'd get an existing HDR-Fox-T2 user another of the same in order to avoid the pain of the 'other platform' box(es) - even the Foxsat-HDR with CF.

There's too many remote control button mis-placements and UI dissimilarities between the HDR-Fox-T2 and Foxsat-HDR that cause me frustrations when switching between the two different platform units under my TV... that my better half finds even more frustrating!

Learning another UI for an Enigma box could end in divorce (or worse). ;)

Are you not aware of what the "T2" designation means? It is not arbitrary.
No I have no clue. It's just part of the name "HDR Fox T2" to me. I'm sorry to be so ill educated.

But you could have stated in your posting what it actually means. Now I await enlightenment in equal parts torment and anticipation.

T2 comes from it being DVB-T2 capable, as opposed to just DVB-T. One wonders why they didn't call the satellite version a Foxsat HDR-S2 or similar (I'm sure you can work out why).

Ah that makes sense technically. But given the average or even fairly well informed consumer has no clue about DVB-T or DVB-T2 maybe not the best marketing plan.

The alternative might have been to include a mention of HD. But the way we operate here (in the UK) is confusing. The T2 multiplex ought to be carrying HiDef only (maybe). The Radio Times lists U&Eden on "F'view (HD only) 57". I know what is meant, but the average punter might assume U&Eden is broadcast in HiDef when, in fact, it's broadcast on the T2 mux - that some old equipment can't receive - in standard definition.
So mentioning HD is also a bad marketing plan.
"HD ready" doesn't cut it either. Not sure how else it could be marketed.

Tell me about it. I bought a 1920 x 1080 24" Sony TV for my parents' bedroom about 15 years ago. Full HD panel but those bastards at Sony only put a DVB-T tuner in it. Outrageous, and it should have been banned by Ofcom regulations. So I had to get an HD Fox T2 as an add on tuner for it, there isn't space for an HDR Fox T2 where that TV sits.
