    Humax portal problem

Thanks, BH, my Hummy does just about everything I want - nice to know that it's not (yet) in a hospice.

    Humax portal problem

Hoping to find advice with my latest "problem". Frequently, but not every time, when I go to the BBC i-player via the portal, it stalls and the Hummy goes right back to a restart. Usually it works on the second attempt and occasionally it takes 3 tries. Once started it runs without fault, no...

Thanks again, all done and it sounds good.

    Audio through "hi fi" amp

Thanks to you all, I'll now have the confidence to buy a length of optical string ;o) and my speakers are either side of the TV so the sound will be "natural".

    Audio through "hi fi" amp

Simple answers please as this technophobe has been left in the 1990s (or earlier!). I've been using this Hummy for some years and am still very happy with it. I've just replaced the amp in my music system and the new one has 2 SPDIF input sockets. One is used for the CD player and I was...

    Save last streamed programme

Thanks for all that - I've demonstrated my ignorance quite well I think. I'll have a look at get-iplayer because I too save radio bits for the car and it might well help here. The saving grace here is that most of the Vietnam series was old material and I doubt if my episode 10 is really looking...

    Save last streamed programme

Just been reading the get-iplayer wiki and it seems that the best available is 1280 x 720 so, perhaps, it's not possible to get HD from the i-player.

    Save last streamed programme

Thanks for your patience BH, what would that offer over my present copying from Hummy to PC? Obviously it skips a step in the copying but is there any other benefit?

    Save last streamed programme

I was wondering about that IIRC the i-Player used weasel words like the "best we can provide". Is there a way of finding what quality is actually provided in the iPlayer?

    Save last streamed programme

Thanks, BH, but we've got fibre BB connection so I'd be surprised if it's a download buffering problem - or am i just showing my ignorance here?

    Save last streamed programme

I'm very much the amateur here with only the sketchiest understanding of the technicalities so please be patient. I've been enjoying the documentary series, "The Vietnam War" on BBC4 and recording it on the Hummy but for some reason Episode 10 didn't record so I thought I'd watch it on the...

Bit of a problem - and need to catch up

Thanks for that, Trev, perhaps I'll last that long and then it will all be SSDs ...

Bit of a problem - and need to catch up

Well, it's been a good learning day. I titled the thread with a need to catch up and that meant with newer hardware and this new-fangled You View. In the midst of all that, the oven packed in when I was baking and just putting in the bread - it must be a Humax oven because it has worked fine...

Bit of a problem - and need to catch up

You're right BH but I like cherries and am too frightened of screwing the whole thing by running tests I don't really understand. Are you suggesting the whole battery of items listed in PuTTY?

Bit of a problem - and need to catch up

Thanks, Martin, I have no idea how to interpret the numbers, to me ID1 looks pretty dramatic but I'm happy that it looks OK to you. Fixdisk ran and stalled a number of times but did complete without listing any errors, just said lots of things were checked. It was all so much easier in DOS3.2...
