Thanks again for all help given. I met with partial success but when we returned I found that there was nothing showing in the EPG for HD channels so I did an auto retune and all is well now. Perhaps the attched file might offer some explanation to those who understand this better than I.
No, what it's doing is waking to prevent the Humax code looking for updates (which it won't find). If you look on RS you'll see a "last seen" activity monitor – that will show you whether the rs package has taken the opportunity to phone home during the time it was supposed to be awake...
That's excellent and very clear, many thanks.
Re to auto power off thingy, it's never been a problem for me as I always switch off the Hummy after use and have not yet watched anything long enough for it to activate itself but I take your point.
To test my understanding I've used the rs site to...
Thanks, BH,
"much easier just to use the RS website as your means to remotely schedule recordings."
Is it really that simple, I have an account at RS and I can see my EPG without IP address or anything like that?
Leave Hummy on and access on 2 Sep or after and it will record the series...
Ok, RS found and installed.
For progress so far, I'm awarding myself a glass (or 3) of wine. Tomorrow I'll see if I can make it all happen.
Thanks to all for all so far.
David
Wow, 3.13 (build 4028).
Great, where do I go from here? I'm grateful for any and all helping hands here. I've found the auto switch off and that seems clear enough.
Thanks, MM, I'm pretty sure I did install the firmware but it's such a long time ago I've forgotten what to do with it.
If you can spare some time to hold my hand I'd be grateful - how can I tell if the firmware is the right one?
Simple words please for this geriatric trying to keep his aged...
Greetings to those with much better knowledge of the system than I.
Here's the challenge:
On Thursday we leave for a holiday in France [no messages of symapthy please ;o) ]
On 8 September the Rugby World Cup starts and I'd like to record the games on ITV.
I'll have a laptop with me so:
Is it...
Hoping to find advice with my latest "problem". Frequently, but not every time, when I go to the BBC i-player via the portal, it stalls and the Hummy goes right back to a restart. Usually it works on the second attempt and occasionally it takes 3 tries. Once started it runs without fault, no...
Thanks to you all, I'll now have the confidence to buy a length of optical string ;o) and my speakers are either side of the TV so the sound will be "natural".
Simple answers please as this technophobe has been left in the 1990s (or earlier!). I've been using this Hummy for some years and am still very happy with it.
I've just replaced the amp in my music system and the new one has 2 SPDIF input sockets. One is used for the CD player and I was...
Thanks for all that - I've demonstrated my ignorance quite well I think. I'll have a look at get-iplayer because I too save radio bits for the car and it might well help here. The saving grace here is that most of the Vietnam series was old material and I doubt if my episode 10 is really looking...
Thanks for your patience BH, what would that offer over my present copying from Hummy to PC? Obviously it skips a step in the copying but is there any other benefit?
I was wondering about that IIRC the i-Player used weasel words like the "best we can provide". Is there a way of finding what quality is actually provided in the iPlayer?
