Hmmmm. Ok, and assuming that is easier done than said:
1. hdr_fox_t2_upgrade.hdf v hdr_10312_mod313a.zip
Nope read that again, I have no idea what a binary compare is. Is it anything like a blueberry Kompot? Scurries off to ask Go Ogle
2. Pending.
Ah, a question I can answer. Yes, it is...
I knew you guys would have. You are all just so thorough, and helpful.
This is, by far, the best forum I have ever encountered regarding speed of reply and technical knowledge.
Do you lot know anything about boats too?
Time spent so far: 1hr 48 mins.(1 hour spent reading the quick start...
Update 3.
Armed with nothing but my new self confidence built on the minor successes of the week, and the fluff I had found in my pant drawer, I lept out of bed bright eyed and bushy tailed like a fox.
Grabbing my 30 year old USB stick which had been loaded with the custom firmware, I headed...
That sounds exactly what I need. Thanks. So, I unzip it, stick it on the same thumb drive I used earlier, and install it the same way I did with 1.03.13?

2. Try and connect my spare router (Teltonika RUT 950)
Either of which would need to connect...
Update.
OK guys, your persistence prompted me to commit a further 45 minutes of my precious life force to the upgrade of the yummy hummy. The good news is I am now on software version 1.03.13, so step one is complete.
The bad news is that I spent 43 minutes looking for an ancient USB stick...
The smallest one i have is 8GB, which also happens to be the oldest one I have, purchased in 2007. I'm not sure I have ever owned a 512MB drive, though I may have owned a 1GB 20 years ago.
I thought this topic would have died off. Boy, you guys are enthusiasts.:)
For completion I tried two usb devices, both Sandisk. One was a vintage 8GB, the other a more modern 32 GB. The chromebook offered FAT 32 formatting of both drives.
My ability to do a firmware upgrade is not a fear of modern technology, it is more born out of frustration through 40 years of messing about with tech that should work, but just doesn't. As I feared, the Humax box is a prime example. OK, I am trying to do it with non standard hardware, so that...
