Upshot is I bought a Seagate 2TB SkyHawk from amazon for £64. Fitted it and all is well. Would like to thank all the people that helped..much appreciated.- Brian Dawson

Filesystem /mnt/hd2 on /dev/sda2 is read-only??
I assumed it could take many hours but not, as it is now, 15 hours of appearing to do nothing. How long would you give it before you do come to the conclusion it it's stopped?- Brian Dawson

Filesystem /mnt/hd2 on /dev/sda2 is read-only??
It just stopped doing anything for hours until I rebooted the machine and tried again. Done that three times now. 'Mid word' means it stopped in the middle of a word for hours which is what made me suspect the process had stopped. Any suggestions welcome..- Brian Dawson

Thank you for your help so far. I have connected an ethernet cable, which sorted the maintenance mode connection problems, and am currently running fixdisk.. I do have wireless-helper installed. I'll get back here when it has finished with results.- Brian Dawson

Apologies for incorrect terminology... I have two HDR-fox T2 boxes. One lost all channels and needed to auto rescan which was fine but it didn't update according to customised firmware settings. The box was missing from the router home network list so had to get the IP address of the box from...- Brian Dawson

Problem with newk package?
Hi, I have newk installed on two machines but still get recordings called 'New_How to Build British_Morgan' for instance on both. Series prefix removal settings are New: New series. Two boxes different list of movies..
I have two Humax HDR-FOX T2 boxes identically configured with same channels deleted and identical favourite channels. If I choose guide, find, genre, movies on each box I get a different list of 400 movies displayed. I wondered why this was the case out of curiosity..- Brian Dawson

I have borrowed a 250GB sata drive, although not an AV, and all has been fine since. I have therefore ordered a http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/enterprise-storage/hard-disk-drives/video-3-5-hdd/as recommended by prpr .
