In the context of the programme I would go with "are". If comparing Nemo against Shaun then "is".
 
The title works... if the programme is a discussion about the appropriate use of a four letter word describing a group of mammals in a sentence!

Ah, I see what the problem is: there's a fashion for using the past tense as the adjective.

Celebrity chef restaurant menu / M&S product labelling: "Roasted potatoes"

Roast potatoes. These potatoes have been roast/roasted... I'm still not sure I like "roasted"!
 
I think it's just prolonged exposure but "roasted veg" and "roast chicken" /sound/ right to me. Of course when I was young we just had vegetables which had been boiled too long.
