What is the hardware?

What we know about it is on the Wiki (go look). The MIPS processor is actually embedded in an SoC designed to implement DVB PVRs, with encryption/decryption (and other stuff) in hardware. The executable binary is less of a problem than understanding the undocumented hardware command interfaces.

Good wiki - had a look. 400MHz Broadcom chip. Not unusual in its time.

The Humax developers used Broadcom's s/w library called Nexus that wraps the SoC functionality. The Nexus documentation and s/w are what, or two of the things, that we're missing.
