After a bit of online searching followed the tip to unpair my phone and reboot the ICE then try Smartphone connection before doing anything and hurrah, got it working! But as I said I will only be using it, if at all, for longer journeys and even then I usually find that a two hour playlist is enough before I get to the next pit stop and can add more items to the list depending on my mood and what is available in a safe parked up way so can get away with not having the greater info and control of the media app you have using AA.
