This morning, powered on … and it started with the full set up .. SCREEN. 1 ..language selection, etc.
Loses all configuration & schedules.
What causes this, happened a few times now.

HD diagnostics attached.. also attach latest log entry …. It shows I shut it down at 0038
The system booted at 04:17 … no idea what this is, nobody was using the box at that time.

Is this the startup reverting to the Installation Wizard you're talking about?
If so, I don't think it's necessary to do a full install, but there are a few, maybe up to ten, questions to answer.
It may be useful to know which version of the custom firmware you're currently on, if it's been recently updated etc.

04:17 is the usual OTA firmware update search.
Cause of the Install Wizard is suspected to be either corrupt database in the flash storage or corruption of the flash filesystem itself.
Install the System Flush image from the Wiki to remake the flash filesystem - you will lose everything stored in the flash and will need to run the fix-flash-packages diagnostic to restore it, as well as any configuration settings therein e.g. for ir, tunefix, newk, undelete, fan, boot-settings, dlna-servername and any custom encryption key.
The hard disk is irrelevant, as is the CF version, although 3.14 is recommended.

OK .. installed & run the system flush file - reported success
Run fix-flash-packages That completed
Not sure what you mean by the next step.
I have packages installed : IR, tunefix, newk, undelete, boot-settings they show as currently installed, do I have to do anything to them ?

Configure their settings as required. It depends what you had done to them before, but only you will know that.

nothing as far as I know
Last year you used System Flash followed by fix-flash-packages. It'll be the similar to back then
https://hummy.tv/forum/threads/config-wiped.11330

You could go to settings and look at the options for each one. That may help you remember any adjustments to their settings that you made previously and re-adjust those settings.

For boot-settings it was for persistent Content Sharing that you installed it.

Blimey, people can't even remember asking the exact same thing from the year before or bother searching for something similar. I usually check posting history, but didn't this time. Note to self not to make that mistake again.

Overall then, that would suggest the problem is not fixable in anything more than the short term.

Finshed the task ... first thing it did was go to the set up wizard again ... so schedules & channels all lost again. (not sure if that is inevitable with system flush)

I remember the task .. but more than a year ago, I couldn't remember the details. As fault is still occurring it does seem that 'system-flush' is not the answer.

Time for a second hand HDR Fox T2 off ebay I would suggest. You can swap your hard disc into it provided you decrypt all the recordings first, or transplant the encryption key (it can be set in the web UI). Custom firmware install from USB stick, fix-flash-packages, correct all your settings and retune channels etc and you should be good to go.

I hadn't looked at 2nd hand ...have 3 older Humax boxes (not FOX T2)
Was sort of thinking moving up to the current product when FOX T2 is terminal (Aura 4k), assuming a new box is not imminent.
Took a quick look on eBay they seem to be sub £30
