HDR-FOX T2 to HDHomeRun, my journey

Noticed tonight that the guide data of only BBC1 HD is missing. I tried manually refreshing a couple of times. I checked live TV for my primary Quatro on BBC1 HD and it displays fine, confirming no issue with the tunimg or reception. Any ideas on what might have cause this @lc200 and how best to resolve it, preferably without a full refune. Anybody else similarly affected?

Thanks. I should probably have said I use the Winter hill. I still have one HDR-Fox T2 plugged in and that is getting the guide data ok as are my various TV's.

This might be related to changes regarding BBC becoming regionalised. Your only option is to go for a retune, any programs that are scheduled will be set again once the guide has reloaded, the only exception will be anything set on BBC1 HD simply because that will get a new service identifier behind the scenes.

TVs and other Freeview boxes will mostly do this automatically (as the frequencies haven't changed) so that might explain why your other boxes are okay, however I've no access to test transmissions or test gear to be able to program and test these sorts of changes so unfortunately its a retune to pick up the BBC HD new service ID and get the guide populating again. Hopefully that will sort it.

@lc200 Thanks yeah it looks like it. I'm a bit spoiled by the HDR-Fox T2 with Tunefix looking after this me. This did not go without incident. I put all 10 frequencies in for Winter Hill and set the retune going, On the 3rd frequency I think it just appeared to no longer progress. Eventually I refresh to find DVROnTime had crashed. I restarted the service and retuned again this time only doing the main frequencies. This picked up BBC1 North West ok and once complete I returned to the guide which auto-refreshed but BBC1 HD was still blank. I manually kicked off a refresh and then BBC1 HD did appear.

Thanks for the log, it looks like the tuner wasn't (or stopped) providing any tuners and was reporting service unavailable. The tuner code looks like it doesn't recover from being refused a tuner so it crashed the app, I will look to add some better error handling.

Good to hear your BBC HD came back after a tune.

Upgraded one of our iPads to IOS 17 Beta and now cant display the full Guide, top line is correct and the following line is from a channel from the bottom of the guide. Everything else works correctly with channel data showing correct programmes and recordings. IOS 16 ipads show correct guide.

I wouldn't read too much into that, although the experts might want to check the web page is being served correctly and complies with the HTML standards.

Presuming it does, that's an Apple snafu. They have a tendency to go their own way, playing fast and loose with standards and trying to bully everyone else to follow their lead. Websites have to include special (non-standard!) tweaks if they want to display correctly on Safari (been there, done that, bought the tee-shirt).

Unfortunately I don't have any iPads to test on. If you have the option to change it then on the iPad make sure it is requesting a desktop version of the site, other than that I'm not sure what the issue is. Hopefully it should work okay using the search and 'programs by channel' to set up recordings as those pages are much simpler mark up. If the changes are also coming to Chrome then it may break for me as well in which case I can find the problem and fix it.

If you don't offer a mobile version of the site, that will make no difference.

As a general policy, web designers should create their layouts to be usable on the minimum supported screen width (in pixels), and can then add fall-backs in the CSS for a variety of wider screens (if necessary / appropriate). Response is easy to test by using a non-full-screen browser window and adjusting the width.

Even then Apple do something strange: the screen width reported to the CSS works with the various split-screen modes on an iPhone/iPad, but remains the same when you switch between landscape and portrait! Derr!! (Actually, I just did a quick check and I think that might be better now.)

A particular bug-bear with Apple is their lack of support for HTML5-mandated non-scrolling backgrounds (it can be done though, with the right work-arounds). Their excuse, it appears, is that recomputing the screen image of the page foreground scrolling over a background (and therefore not being a simple pixel shift) consumes too much battery. I would have thought all they needed was a video chip able to support layers, as per the early days of PC video, but what do I know!

No plans to change the guide at the moment as I don't have much free time to embark on reworking it. Making the guide work on normal desktop browsers was challenging enough

Android user rather than apple and only occasional user on phone but dvrontime pages work well apart from guide.

On the guide it appears to be sized to the full size of the epg display so instead of the channel name column and time row remaining frozen on the screen when scrolling through the grid they disapear off screen making it difficult to track which channel and time slot you are looking at

My other gripe on both web and mobile is that display should initially be positioned to display current time rather than needing to scroll from midnight.
A favourite channel option would also be useful to reduce vertical scrolling

It should scroll to the correct time position, it is working that way in Chrome on Windows. Which browser and OS are you using?

Firefox on Win11 and Win 10,

but switch to another page and back to guide and it is positioned ok

Possibly a timing window, maybe positioning is being applied before epg data has completed loading

Tried MS Edge and it did position correctly
Also now positioned correctly on Android!
