HDR1000S failing to record

Hi,
my HDR1000$ has recently started to fail to record a scheduled programme. Manual record works fine.

Set the box to record a programme in the future then either put box into standby or switch to another channel. Programme will fail to record.
If I switch to the channel at some point during the programme it will immediately start to record from that point.
if I stay on that channel it will stop recording when the programme ends. If I switch back to another channel it continues to record the required programme but doesn’t stop when it ends. I either have to manually stop the recorkdi or switch back to the channel at which point it stops recording.

Have got two LNBs connected both showing good signal strength.
This issue has also been reported on another forum by a couple of other users with a Humax Foxsat recorder.

Regional setting is East Midlands.

Factory reset and/or power off/on doesn’t fix it.

The epg also seems very slow to populate after bringing the box out of standby :(

Any ides or suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Sounds like a dead tuner to me, although some of the details don't quite equate. While the remaining tuner is occupied, it can't do other things.

I don't know the 1000S; if there is a "hidden" service menu, you might be able to run a tuner test.

The system menu shows good signal strength and quality on both LNB inputs.
I can also manually record two different channels (on different) transponders.
There seems to be more than me with this problem although the other reports I’ve seen are for a Humax Foxsat PVR and not the 1000s

Have you tested all quadrants on both feeds? Try swapping the feeds over and see what happens.

But in the absence of any other ideas...

LNBs is not the same as tuners, so if you can find a tuner test, use it.

Theres only a “Signal info” screen which shows strength and quality for each input. It doesn’t show frequency or h/v etc.
I’ve checked the tuners as best I can by selecting channels in the different quadrants, recording a channel in one quadrant and watching channels in others etc.

I’ve also swapped lnb inputs and even swapped to the lnb on my other dish which is motorised. All give missed recordings.

The odd thing is it obviously doesn’t affect everyone but there are a few of us with the problem and we all noticed it at the time.

Not really affecting me and my -HDR either... tho I'm on DS under a nom-de-plume. This 1000S issue is completely different to the very few Accurate Record problems I have had recently.

NB BBC One has multiple national and regional versions as has ITV1 and even C4 that may be relevant to the effects seen? (If it's going wrong in C&M rather than Playout, possibly).

I've done a few experiments and I'm fairly convinced that 11097V is not sending out Accurate Recording data.
This runs ITV1 HD in 5 regions and ITV3 HD nationally.
If you are watching one of these then recordings will not start.
On a Foxsat-HDR you can enable padding instead of AR and this does make it work.
I don't think you can use padding on a 1000S.

Does anyone know how to contact ITV or Freesat to inform them this is happening ??

Can you state what channels (i.e. the LCNs) you have done tests on, and I will do some recordings tomorrow. Then I can run them through my decoder and see how they compare.

I tried recording various channels including BBC1 NWest HD & BBC 2 while watching ITV3 HD.
Both those on the same band/polarity and different.
I tested both using padding and "Auto", i.e. accurate recording.

I believe the problem may also have spread to 11052H and 11068V, which also had test channels added today.
This would affect almost all ITV's HD channels.

I'm not au fait with the numbers, and don't have time to look stuff up. Please state the LCNs.

ITV3 HD is 115 (on 11097V)
BBC1 NW HD is 953 (and 101 in the North West) (on 10773 H)
BBC2 HD is 102 in England and 967 elsewhere (on 10847 V)

There is also 113 (ITV2 HD) and 117 (ITV4 HD) which are on 11053 H and 11068 V

Nope. It certainly is transmitting AR (on ITV1 Anglia East for me). Albeit not (always) correctly.

My -HDR recording of last night's Celebrity (2100-2215 scheduled time) started Mon Nov 27 21:01:50 2023 and ended Mon Nov 27 22:30:50 2023 which is an overrun of 15 minutes into the News. Without AR at all it'd have recorded under clock time. With a 'different' CRID to the one expected in the timeslot it'd have been a 'failed recoding' 0 minutes. Probably.

My region of ITV1 is, of course, LCN 103 and other regions are hidden / need adding in non freesat mode

ITV viewer services can be contacted via https://www.itvplc.com/contact-us --- they used to be easier to get to than now.
Freesat https://www.freesat.co.uk/about/contact-us - but good luck with finding someone technical to comprehend your query.

Since this problem only seems to affect older boxes, then if it is indeed a broadcast AR signal issue it must be due to some change in the protocols. ie. Newer boxes have software that can cope but backward compatibility isn't adequate. (A bit like the ever changing HDMI standards.)
I imagine there must be some way to check this.

I have contacted Freesat support and this has been referred to their "technical team".

I have noticed that the PMTs on the affected transponders have missing descriptors, in particular those on PIDs 3840 and 3843.

Sadly the Foxsat doesn't record the EIT or SDT PIDs, so the recordings are of no use. All I can get is the PMT:

Since this problem only seems to affect SOME older boxes,
Correction. (But should that be only Humax boxes are affected?)
There is no outcry on AVForums or the 'other' Humax forum about this.
Only on here and DigitalSpy (possibly from the same affected parties, and maybe a few others)?

I don't believe its endemic and any more that normal issues/glitches with my PVR. ITV1 are messing up at least some AR flags: my recording of Celebrity last night, : 2100-2215 was recorded as 21:01:50 to 22:43:18 2023, roughly 30 minutes overrun.

On the other hand it may just be no-one is noticing or can be bothered to complain on forums.

This is what happened on Freeview for ITV1 HD:
Code:
11/27 21:01:51 Event 17662:21459 4E:15 started 21:00:00 01:15:00 "New: I'm A Celebrity... Get Me..." "/1002281835" "/ebshd49177"

11/28 21:01:51 Event 17662:26334 4E:10 started 21:00:00 01:30:00 "New: I'm A Celebrity... Get Me..." "/1002281836" "/ebshd49177"

Nothing untoward there. Or maybe there was, based on the next post, if the programme really was 1h15 in duration.
