Media mistakes

My bin calendar has months with collection day and colour of bin(s) to be emptied on one side and all the bumf telling you what to put in the bins on the other. I just stick up the calendar side from this year with the out-of-date explanation from last year. So far, so good. No cut and paste required - just twice the amount of Blu-Tack.
 
I see what colour of bin my neighbour puts out the afternoon before the next day very early morning collection. No cut. paste or Blu-Tack required.
 
Our collection is normal bins one week, recycling bins the next so I just have a fortnightly recurring event for each in my phone's calendar (colour coded to match the relevant bin colour). Though I strongly suspect my neighbours wait until I put mine out as per Trog's comment above!

We've got six, or seven if you include a collection they don't supply a bag/crate for.

Every week, the recycling gets collected in one go, but segregated into separate collecting bags and crates: food waste; paper & card; plastics & metals; glass bottles & jars + small electricals; clothing (bagged yourself).

Separately, the non-recyclable domestic waste mini-wheelie bin is collected every third week.

Separately, the garden waste wheelie bin is collected every third week (not in winter), not the same week as non-recyclable domestic waste.

Thus there is only one bin out at a time, and none on the in-between week.

That does not count the items not recycled by the council's agents (supermarkets have drop-off points for batteries and soft plastics), or that I have to make an appointment on-line to take to the tip.
 
At the moment Rushcliffe bin collection is fairly logical. We have 4 bins, Grey (general waste) collected every fortnight, Blue (recyclable) and Green (garden waste) fortnightly when not Grey, and Purple (glass) every six weeks with the Grey bin. All to be messed up when my area gets lumped into the city with LGR.
 
Westmoreland and Furness CC have begun charging £60 per annum for 1 garden waste bin. I have refused and have been in correspondence for two months now, asking them to remove their bin from my property. This, they have promised to do, but six weeks have now elapsed and it's still here and they have stopped responding.
I have warned them I will invoice them £60 per annum storage.
Council services here have deteriorated since the boundary changes took place. Previously, a simple 'phone call to Eden District Council (local and now defunct) would suffice.
The new council covers an area from Barrow in Furness to Carlisle, a massive area. Ridiculous.

( Not a media mistake! )

I would expect nothing less and that is why rather than bring your bin back in for you as I do for my neighbour when I do mine I would leave yours half way down the road where it was left by the bin man :).

I am often tempted to put the wrong one out initially just to see what they do.

Same in our area, but I'm not aware of the council taking any of the bins back. My neighbours don't pay (no mandatory sticker on the bin and they don't put it out) and they still have the bin.

I just don't want the bin cluttering the place up and do not need it. I have to shift it each time I go out in the car. I have offered to transport it to anywhere in the local area, including the recycling centre, but they're stonewalling.

I've got the same with the purple (glass) bin which I found they had dumped in the middle of the drive one day. It would take me years to fill it and it's just in the way. I take the stuff to the supermarket bin, as necessary, when I'm going. Must see if I have more luck than you with getting rid of it...

I wish they'd rationalise the charges for the green bins too. The amount I pay in Mendip-land is significantly more (and has gone up faster) than in Waltham-land.
I believe some places still don't charge extra at all.

South Cambridgeshire where I live charges nothing for garden waste. At present our wheelie bin for that can also take food waste and anything else compostable. This service started so long ago (25 years at a guess) the council had to get a veterinary licence to collect pig bin waste as it was the only legal way to collect waste food at the time. Unfortunately the changes to standardise collections mean I'm likely to lose the ability to put food waste in my compost bin, which is annoying as I don't have space for a separate food bin. Also in my kitchen caddy I put used tissue paper, paper towels, wine corks and anything else compostable. This will all be banned soon. The new standard scheme is a huge backwards step for me.
