What with drones and those cameras on cables above football pitches (and probably elsewhere) we may be getting too close to the action.

The shots are mostly $h!t3 too, being massively wide-angle, and are over-used, probably by trendy young directors who want to use the latest whizzy thing regardless of merit. Traditionally positioned cameras on tripods etc. cover things a lot better most of the time. Strange that ain't it, decades of experience triumphing.

The batsman hits a ball, it's heading in the air towards the boundary and splat it hits a drone, how many runs?

Should be 10, for extreme skill and positioning.

Or, it hits the drone and a fielder catches it.

Is the batsman out? With a bit of luck the drone will be out.

No, but hopefully the drone is smashed into the (old fashioned) boundary fence, not the stupid modern boundary sponge thing positioned a ridiculous distance inside it.

Or Steadicam, but not some plank with a camera perched on their shoulder. I feel seasick just thinking about it.

Drone crashes in to a hurdle about 6 min. in from the start of the Athletics this morning.

Around 10 years ago Marcel Hirscher (world cup slalom skier) narrowly missed being hit very hard by a falling drone (

). Drones were banned for a number of years afterwards as a result but subsequently re-introduced. To be fair in that particular sport - especially the speed events - they do capture some great footage allowing you to appreciate the skier's skill and speed.
