Need to replace HDR-FOX T2 (Green screen on new TV)

My mother, being a spritely 86 years old loves her HDR. But her new bigger tv only shows a green screen.
Tried different cables etc, and no hope, tried a hdmi to scart converter but the video quality is awful.

So what should I replace it with? Something I could transfer her old recording from would be great, the current t2 has been happy on the custom firmware for years.

Sorry for ramble, just at wits end on what to do.

Before you give up try telling us what TV she now has, maybe someone will know how to get it working ok.

Will have another search, it kept failing on the ipad.

The tv is an LG43UA...something something.

It has the catchup apps she wanted and YouTube for timeteam.

Will try the pin 19 tape thing, but anything too invasive is not on the cards, hence what would be a good replacement.

I have a recent LG TV without any green screen issues, there should be something in the TV HDMI settings that will fix the problem but I don't recall having to do anything special

We have several existing threads, which typing "green" into the forum search bar and selecting "titles only" will produce (and yes, I am using an iPad). There are two potential cures, one involves disabling a pin or wire in the HDMI cable, and the other is using a splitter.

For more tips on searching see the Newbies' Guide.

Checked all the splitter threads, not in a position to purchase and return if they don’t work. Taping up pin 19 looks beyond my hand eye coordination.
So let’s pretend the magic smoke has escaped from the box.
Anyone have any preference for the new Humax boxes? Or another brand.
I have a ferry booked for Sunday night, so really needs to be something current that I can drive to for purchasing.

IIRC I had a no video issue with my brand new Panny OLED and the HDR-Fox-T2 ... or it may have been the Foxsat-HDR (waning powers and memory overflow issues).

Auto HDMI mode on its input needed changing to one of the alternatives mode 1 or mode 2 as Panasonic label it. Don't know if this is relevant to the LG and this Humax but may be worth a no-cost try?

Options:
  • Try turning off Deep Colour or Advanced HDMI or any other special high spec options for the HDMI input in use.
  • Try using an HDMI input that does not support eARC or 4K or anything else, a boring 1080p input. Try them all.
  • Try different resolutions out of HDR Fox T2, eg 1080i, 1080p, 720p

Put her old TV back into use until you are able to come back and sort this out with more time available. Then you can try HDMI splitters and send them back if they don't help. I know what this is like, I support my elderly aunt and parents who live some distance away.

Tried all that last night was up until 3am.
Cable has been sourced.
I have a spare box at home I will be bringing over.
Luckily dearest mother has agreed to soldier on with the blurry scart converter for a month, though she has wrangled me into taking her to a hospital appointment next month as penance. :)

There aren't any good replacements for an HDR Fox T2.
I was starting to get that feeling. The smart tv limitations were originally sorted out with an Apple TV. The T2 has been pretty much flawless for her for about 10 years.
Only real issue was filling up the hdd as she saved everything, so a 2tb hdd upgrade within a year of purchase fixed that. Not to mention suggesting that housekeeping wasn’t a dirty word.

Is that RGB SCART out of the Humax to HDMI on the TV, or the other way round? If it's HDMI out of the Humax, the conversion to SCART is likely downscaling the picture and may be doing a poor job. Try changing the HDR Fox T2 output resolution to 576i so the converter isn't doing any scaling.

Does the TV itself have an option to connect a USB hard disc to record onto? Personally I think you're better off persevering with the HDR Fox T2, as much for familiarity with the user interface for your mother as anything else, but if you have to change why not investigate what the TV itself can do?

The Tv does support usb recording, but I am personally against long term usb hdd usage. Plans are in place for next month.

I have also tried changing the Scart settings with no perceived improvement.

She can live with it short term, the playback quality isn’t unwatchable, just more like watching an old 1970’s recording on YouTube.

She watched the moon landing live on a black and white tv, so can live with dodgy scart for a month without any consequences. :)
