Python Snowflake Warning

If we're into 'travellers' now, so far as I am concerned they are drop-outs who want to live their own lives (fair enough), but without suffering the deprivations that naturally result from not contributing to society (taxes, utility bills) and feeling no compulsion to obey laws which protect those of us that do. We have a bunch down here, moved onto some land legally acquired, and then put up prefabs. The council seem unable or unwilling to do anything about it. Then they clog up the streets with their pony & traps, no doubt paying nothing for the privilege.

Then they claim racial discrimination if you object – as if they are a separate race indeed!

If you are thinking of University education, don't you only start paying that back if you are employed at a high enough wage (£27000 ish) and only by making your income tax higher? It is quite possible you'd never pay it back - I think it's written off after about 40 years, just in time for your pension.
All that is getting tightened up, but yes I don't see any need to panic about it. It should be seen as a hypothecated tax on future earnings, not a "loan". The big problem that I see with it is the Government giving student loans to people when they are extremely unlikely to be subject to the tax – including foreign students! If nothing else, it's a disincentive to stay in the UK if you can get a job elsewhere.

I was not suggesting an exact copy of the student loans more a suggestion that if they have to pay back from future earnings then a similar scheme for migrants could be made, maybe without the 27,000 cap but with a rising percentage on earnings amount. The knowledge that we are not giving a free handout and now just a loan would be enough of an incentive to quell the numbers coming and maybe those that do come will be willing and able to make a contribution and it might filter out the freeloaders . As unpalatable as it may be we need people to fill certain jobs and with a falling birth rate we need to increase the population of tax payers or we are stuffed and it will be more than just the triple lock that has to go and we will all suffer.

That's the last thing we need. As unpalatable as it may be, the notion that economic stability relies on an ever increasing population is a dead end.

That's capitalism for you. It needs ever growing consumption and that requires an ever growing population. Why do you think Japan and other countries are desperately creating incentives to raise their birth rates.
