Recording Freezes Box

Telnet is not part of the Standard Firmware, you will need a Version of CF to get Telnet back, I would then try to delete the corrupted file

Hi Ezra, I thought I did re-upload the CF as well, but now I have re-uploaded the 1.02.20 Official and now uploading the CF for 1.02.20 2.12 to see if i can Telnet in!

if I do get Telnet back, can i simply copy the text:
rm /mnt/hd1/filebglastop.dat

Followed by

reboot

And will that delete the corrupted file?

No that didn't work!

Sorry no idea how to use Telnet, so not sure how to delete this file!

I am putting 1.01.09 back on for tonight and will look again tomorrow as am recording quite a bit tonight!

Yes just copy and paste into a Telnet window, I think this file is only present during deleting or a failed delete run. If it's not present then I guess it's not the problem

Well I tried that and when I switched the box back on, it was still deleting!

i have put 1.01.09 back on for now and the box is recording, so will wait until tomorrow!

one other thing i noticed was that whilst watching BBC1 HD this evening (running 1.01.09) and recording BBC HD I pressed pause on BBC1 HD and when I pressed play a few minutes later, no sound came on, I pressed mute, in case I had inadvertently pressed that as well, but no that didn't work either until I pressed stop to go back to the live broadcast. if I rewound again, no sound. I also noticed that Mute was stuck on the VFD display, this only rectified when i turned the box off and on again!

Well seeing as I have a box that records for now, I will re-load the latest official software and associated CF tomorrow and see if deleting comes back on, if I can telnet in I will try the copy and paste of the fix and see what happens!

Otherwise I am stumped unless anyone else has any ideas?

Does that extend to not knowing how to get the humax# prompt in the first place?

Luckily no BH, I have managed to use Telnet in the past, I just wanted to make sure that the instructions were meaning copy and paste the code, as it wasn't highlighted in yellow, and i just wanted to make sure!

Shame it didn't work though!

I think that there may be a problem with HD sound on firmwares older than 1.02.20 due to some changes made in June this year.

The full procedure for fixing this (assuming you don't want to use fix-disk which does a filesystem check then asks if you want to clean up the deleting loop) is as follows - also assuming CFW 2.12 (which added the resume flag).

Make sure your box isn't recording or about to record as the Humax software will be shut down for a short time.

Code:
humax# /etc/init.d/S90settop shut
humax# rm /mnt/hd1/filebglastop.dat
humax# /etc/init.d/S90settop resume

Well recordings have finished, so thought I would see what I could do....

I tried fix-disk, and I got this:

Code:
-/bin/sh: y: not found

EDIT: worked out I had to remove the ? and replace with y, and it is now running fix disk!

Ezra, should the Wiki be amended to advise users to replace the ? with either a Y or N when they first run fix-disk?

I then tried your suggestion af, and the deleting has stooped, and the Edit Channels is back as well as installation, however Data Storage is greyed out, so I am not sure what else is wrong with it!

I'm not sure how or why you removed the ?. The ? is there because it prompts for a y or n reply.
Code:
fix-disk
Warning: This procedure will freeze the Humax for anything up to 2 hours.
Please ensure that no recordings are currently in progress or scheduled
during this time.
Do you wish to continue [Y/N]? n

If it detects a possible delete loop you will see the following after it has completed the disk tests:
Code:
Are you having problems with a delete loop [Y/N]?
Once again it is not necesaary to remove the ? but to reply with y or n.

If you don't reply with y or Y it will assume no.

Thanks xyz321, but I tried putting y in and it came up with the following:
Code:
-/bin/sh: y: not found

After I removed the ? and pressed y it worked.

Didn't get that second message ref delete loop, but did get lots if errors that were fixed along the way!

Anyway all back to normal now, no idea what happened, but very grateful to all for the fix-disk app, as that has saved my bacon!

Now all I need to do is get WebIf back, for some reason it isn't working!

Cheers

Any idea why Webif wont load?

I get the following after pressing the yellow download button:

This may take some time depending on your Internet connection speed.

Downloading http://hummypkg.org.uk/hdrfoxt2/base/Packages.gz.
Inflating http://hummypkg.org.uk/hdrfoxt2/base/Packages.gz.
Updated list of available packages in /mod/var/opkg/base.
Package webif (0.9.13-4) installed in root is up to date.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations, you have successfully installed the full web interface
and supporting packages. Please restart your Humax device using the
remote control to put it into standby, wait for it to fully shut down
and then start it up again.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I then re-boot,and I get the download page again, on WebIf?

Thanks Ezra, did that and re-ran the download all working OK again!:D

Now i will re-load all the packages I had and see if I get the box slowing down on remote responses, as I wonder if that was a sign of things to come!

Might this "y" problem be something to do with DOS line ends?

Scuttlebroom, what Telnet client are you using?

It might be due to the telnet settings on the PC.

Here is a fix-disk run (there may be additional output if it finds errors and corrects them):
Code:
fix-disk
Warning: This procedure will freeze the Humax for anything up to 2 hours.
Please ensure that no recordings are currently in progress or scheduled
during this time.
Do you wish to continue [Y/N]? y
The Humax will now reboot into maintenance mode
After reboot please telnet in and type this command:
    fix-disk
Rebooting.....
After reboot:
Code:
fix-disk

Are you having problems with a delete loop [Y/N]? n

Finished - type 'reboot' to return to normal operation
Please could we add this to the documentation, preferablly with highlighting to show user input.

Might this "y" problem be something to do with DOS line ends?

Scuttlebroom, what Telnet client are you using?

Hi BH, I am using PuttyTel and the code I see if i add y or n is:

Code:
humax# fix-disk
Warning: This procedure will freeze the Humax for anything up to 2 hours.
Please ensure that no recordings are currently in progress or scheduled
during this time.
Do you wish to continue [Y/N]? n

humax# n
-/bin/sh: n: not found
humax#
humax#

So I have to backspace to the ? and replace with a y to run.
