Redring - development and beta testing.

When you do the next test version could you put it on the main Webif as a development package please. I'll try it out then. More testers more log files :-)

Do you mean to say that you are not testing the current version?:D it's easy to install via telnet, and the details can be found in posts #236 & #241.:)

OK I've loaded a Telnet application onto my Playbook and now have redring running. So far seems to work OK with manual recordings. Will have to wait till tomorrow to see if all is OK with a scheduled recording.

I have just got in from work to find both boxes in standby with Orange rings, but one box has two stray icons on the display, "TV" & "HD".

Edit: Stray icons have cleared after being powered up and then placed back into standby

RC4 is there now. This isn't much different from RC3 but will create a persistent log file (i.e. one which isn't cleared on standby, redring.log) and provides a debug option which will log a lot more information. Hopefully, the log will show what happened if/when strange things occur.

Code:
humax# opkg install http://hummypkg.org.uk/hdrfoxt2/test/redring_0.99-4_mipsel.opk

No need to remove the old version first - the install command will perform an upgrade if necessary.
If you're willing to test this then please enable debugging (option on settings page).

set a recording to start at 00:00 then placed in standby at 23:40, went amber correctly, Went blue at 23:45 correctly BUT stayed blue when recording started at 00:02 here is the 0.99-4 log :-

Code:

I have installed this on one box and enabled debugging, and have now got a stray partial icon in the display which has survived several reboot cycles. It is part of the HDD usage icon.
The partial stray HDD usage icon is still present after another couple of reboots. I should add that it is only a partial stray icon when the box is put into standby, at all other times the rest of the icon is shown properly.

I have just installed this on my other HDR-FOX T2, and this now also has the same partial stray HDD usage icon displayed in standby. This behaviour was not present in 0.99-3 so is perhaps a bug introduced in 0.99-4. It looks as though it may require a switch off at the back to clear, but I will leave them for now until I hear if af123 has any other suggestions.

Just had a look at the redring.log and noticed that it is growing in size at an alarming rate, particularly when playing back a recorded programme as it seems to log each change in the display caused by the scrolling, this makes it very hard to actually find any redring related entries in amongst the other stuff.

I have installed the new version, and my box all looks OK, no stray icons here!
Have you looked Very closely? when the box is put into standby, the HDD usage icon should go off, but mine are both leaving one of the bars from within the rectangle still lit up.

Not noticing any bars at all when in standby, only icon showing is the timer icon and the time.

OK thanks, both of mine have one bar showing.
Brian, yours had stray icons on a previous version, and mine never had, so not sure if that might be relevant af's diagnosis of why some of us get different issues? I notice if I pause live tv and have a recording running as well, the ring goes purple, for a few seconds, before reverting to red, not an issue, for me, as long as my box keeps recording as normal!

Got home from work late last night to find one box with Orange ring and normal icons, the other one the same plus "FULL" & "REC" stray icons. Both boxes survived the 4:30 am activities in this state, so I decided to switch off at the back, and after a couple of reboots both boxes appear to be back to normal.

Less than 2 days since installing, one of my redring.logs has now reached 6.10 MiB and is rising fast, I think that I may well end up turning off debugging.
